I've been thinking about the way ES is going... and a dark and evil thought has come to mind... Is there any way that this will end happily? Or at least on a remotely fulfilling note?
What do YOU think?

Hate to sound like a moron here, but could you clarify 'happy'? And what does 'half the cast gets what they want, the other half get what they need, except for those cast members that just die' qualify as?

I vaguely recall somewhere Poe mentioning that ES was meant to be in part the villain's side of the story in Final Fantasy as they go through increasingly tougher fights and battles to become the uber bad-arse that we know them to be.

I don't think it will end well for anyone, because Meiji, Jon, Sarine and Ian are all such tragic characters and their fates are probably going to go poorly no matter how hard they try to escape them.

Of course this is just speculation, Poe might invent a Bunny-Cannon and all will be well in the last strip ever. We'll never know till we get to the end.

Actor.

Argument 1) Tragic/dramatic characters tend to have a bittersweet ending (Fate Stay Night, Utawarerumon). Probably someone sacreficing himself for the cause, thogh I hope not. It's an unreal plot devise.

Argument 2) Poe, is a cynic. While he's writing doesn't actively focuses on the darker shades of life, he doesn't try to hide them. Therefore, the story will end like real stories: some gain from the adventure, some lose from the adventure and some die in the adventre.

Argument 3) Originality: Webcomic artists, as a whole, dislike doing things that already have been done. Many of them chosen this specific medium because it allows great(est?) freedom for expression. Because of this, I think (hope?) that Poe has thought on something original for the ending.

The poll didn't ask if the story probably will end well, or even whether it should. Only if it could. And it certainly can. Such an ending might be a touch contrived (and probably a little bittersweet), but it's possible.

I think that you are getting a definite "maybe" on this one.

I've been assuming all along that Meji will complete her final project, one way or another. Anything else would be just boring.

Exactly what form that takes and what size smoking hole in the ground we'll have in place of Tsuirakushiti when it's all done is anybody's guess, however.

I vote: unlikely.

Although having said that, I think the bittersweet, or doom-addled endings are better. That being said, I enjoy the happy endings too, so either way I personally will be victorious.

I'd be disappointed to see all the main characters die before the end, though. IMO a story loses its relevance if they key players all die before the conclusion. After all, who's there to pick up the pieces? A nobody.

I voted maybe.

I know what happens, though, so I could hardly vote any other way.

How does it feel to know the story and yet, await the drawings to catch up?

Do you advise him on how to draw a scene? I couldn't resist, if I knew the story. I'd have it playing in my head, all these things ready to flow onto the paper, and he'd get so tired of my "help", lol.

Then it would be like Well of Darkness.

Which was just fucking awesome, I thought.
