"Flowers for Algernon"

I hate that book as much as "On the Beach".

I hate that book with a burning passion that eclipses the sun in its intensity.
And On the Beach I've not yet read. Will have to look it up, I did see the TV mini-series, wasn't too bad.

Actor.

Both were part of my growing-up books. I can still remember scenes from both so they must have had some impact, as they obviously did on you. I'm surprised anyone reads these books by choice these days.

Old Shute-Norway's "On The Beach" isn't that bad ... dialog a bit stilted and probably too compact for tastes today (compare and contrast Stephen King, if you will). "No Highway"? "In The Wet"? He was involved in the Brit aircraft industry before he moved to Australia so a lot of his later stuff is Oz-based and a lot of it aircraft-oriented. He was also in the Royal Navy, so some the "On The Beach" stuff is written from authority. His books had an appeal for me as I worked for British Aerospace and I like Oz and I was in the Merchant Navy.

Damn, that's a nasty world you live in. Glad I didn't grow up there. Great flow of language, though.

Its called the midwest. Still better than goddamn New Jersey though.
I hold that state in great esteem. Darwinism has already killed off the weak there.

Oh, yeah, now I recognize the voice. Do you teach 9th Grade English at Glenbard East high school?

Hell, if we piss Ian off enough he is likely to de-orbit the moon and give all of us a really bad day.

Spent the morning trying to remember what story that happened in. I'm thinking Larry Niven's The Magic Goes Away or thereabouts.

As long as you aren't limited to our moon, then Star Wars The New Jedi Order: Vector Prime qualifies.

But I imagine that Errant Story is a world Poe would have envisioned. A world where maybe a god or a hero would come heal him. I think that's why I read it so avidly. I was constantly sick as a little girl, in and out of the hospital, and finally a bone marrow transplant. My daddy would bring my comic books to read, lol. I remember thinking I'd like a hero to come and take all the pain away from me. I didn't really know much about God, so I prayed to superheroes that they would come and heal me.

I know that's probably lame to most people, but maybe Ian's that hero that people wish for, maybe that's where he's headed. It's just a silly little dream, but hey, even now, when I feel sick, I keep thinking, "Are you there, hero, waiting to come rescue me?"

Is that you, Mr. Glass?

Look up your idioms.

Also, I greatly admire any character that you have to drop a fucking moon on to kill. Chewy FTW.

Which is not as intense an event as being a "dirty whore." Anyhow, the question is culture specific. Pretty much nothing you can say on the topic can't be contradicted somewhere in the thousands of societies 20 billion humans have founded over the centuries. Or, for that matter, in the dozens of subcultures we have here in the American Midwest. You can scope out a dozen or so just taken a ride on the Chicago Elevated.

I sleep with women. I sleep with men. I am currently petitioning for the creation of a hermaphrodite super-race via genetic tinkering. As I have said many times before, I am a pansexual.

In other words, I am speaking for myself.
I am the Giga-Whore.

Is a straight hetero mundane male allowed to say that's a pretty blouse on Leah and that it is broadminded of Poe to put some thought into women's clothes beyond the mundane, the Japanese, and the skanky?

I always figured that all clothing is skanky. Due to the deviant mind's amazing ability to fill in between the lines with delicious meaty goodness, a woman in the world's most unrevealing turtleneck can be even hotter than one in a bikini.

Tight-fitting turtlenecks are *not unrevealing - makes handwaving gestures about profiles - see?? Now a burqa that's a different kettle of, um, fish although a BBC correspondent writing of his time in Arctic Russia found eyes incredibly alluring.

 The blue-skinned supervillain from Kim Possible? He'd botch the job for sure.

And if you're going to a Kim Possible villain for genetic tinkering, you'd get DNAmy anyway.
