Okay I am going to be the devils advocate here and and state that I think it will work, she will be revived. I can't imagine what will happen to Ian afterwards though.

That's probably a best-case scenario. He didn't get it quite exactly right when he healed Leah, but then he learned from his mistakes and was able to cure half the village. If he raises his mother first by accident, he can sleep on it, shake out any mistakes, come back when he wakes up in a week, and raise everyone in the cemetery.

If he had the potential to get back into that kind of state of mind, that would be the game plan he followed in the first place. Recall he was getting 'loose' mentally long before they showed up in Santuariel. Boy's flying apart at the seams.

Ian's avatar doesn't use the run-of-the-mill subscriber algorithms to do stuff any more. He's got admin access.

Although raising the dead can end well in certain circumstances I agree 90% of non direct deific involvement tends to come up a cropper. In this case an exhausted, unstable being of uncertain power raising an uncertain corpse with someone who may or may not try to stop them its pretty much certain. Sigh I guess there's nothing to do now but wait and watch.

I still say he's doing the whole "noble sacrifice of my life for hers, coupled with a major overdose of goddess juice and more than a bit of selfish vanity."

If he succeeds in raising his sister from the dead I won't be surprised at all. If he does it and then dies, I won't be surprised at all.
If he fails and in failing causes irrevocable damage to either himself or others around him, I won't be all that surprised.

If he fails completely, then I'll be surprised.
Something is going to happen, I just hope this is not the last page of this chapter, leaving us waiting for months to see what happens would be just plain mean Mr. Poe!

But then again, we're all gluttons for punishment anyway.

One more page to set up a proper cliffhanger would be diabolical writing genius.

And then no news at all about what happens to Ian until Sarine, John and Co. stumble onto it with uncertain, nonspecific aftermath, continuing the current cliffhanger for another chapter.

That would make people glued to the computer with fingers resting readily over their refresh buttons.

... It would also be evil.

I'm surprised you're having to actually cast that. :-)

I play a lot of Chaotic Neutral, so you gotta make sure he's not one of those.

After giving it some thought, if he succeeds and burns away his physical self in the process, leaving Ian-god-of-the-Errants, I wouldn't be surprised.

Really, though, how could there be enough corpse to raise as a zombie? That house burned to the ground. Not that there wouldn't be some remains, and something nasty could be conjured up, but not a reanimated corpse or skeletal remnant.

Hopefully Meji can explain the logic of that to Ian as she lightning bolts him in the back.

Wonder what sort of container, if any, do you suppose they use here? Box, bag, cloth, woven reeds, fur? The skins of your enemies or the last pair you beat at whist?

Has anyone ever done a story in which people were attacked by reanimated body bags?

Fuuuwwww Powahhhh!
I personally suspect that Rape-kun probably has a couple of intermediate stages to properly suit a growing young woman. The tentacle monster best suited to break a young girl's hymen is not the same monster best suited for a MILF who has born three children and thus has a pussy you could drive the family minivan through.
