I still say there's a chemical basis for memory, and that if Ian doesn't have a rotting zombie on his hands anymore, he'll at least have something that isn't really his sister.

Yeah, it worked. But how well did it work?
The possibilities range from fully functional woman, cured of whatever disease previously afflicted her, to barely animate flesh golem barren of any original soul. Hell, she might still be just a corpse... just an intact one. Ian might be animating her with telekinesis.
