Wait... I know it might be unreasonable to require n00bs to read the entire story and commit every detail to memory... But could you at least try to read the last 3, 4 pages?

Maybe you should be the one to go back and re-read this chapter. It is not stated anywhere within this chapter that Sara would be allowed back in the order if she was able to make it back. All Anita stated was that she failed her previous test pretty badly and that her new one is to see if she can escape on her own. Sure her new test is to escape on her own, but how long does she have to accomplice this? How can they be sure that just because she came back she isn't a traitor?

I really do try to stay away from anything that might risk flame exchanges, but that's just bullshitting. It's not even semantic bullshitting, because what Anita said was:

Imperatrix Anita wrote:
"Well... while on a mission that was suppose to be a test, to see if she was ready to be raised to a full monk , she not only allowed her instructor to be murdered but she was captured. I'd say she failed that test pretty badly. A shame.

Her new test will be if she can escape on her own. If she doesn't we can assume she's either dead, worthless, or a traitor."

Going by the set-matches there; If Sara escapes on her own she is ready to be raised to a full monk, and she is not dead, worthless, or a traitor. No other qualifiers given or aluded to.

If that isn't clear enough: Sara escaping and returning to the monks = Sara passing her test and becoming a full monk of the order.

Unless Ian does something.

That is quite naive though. Strictly speaking there would have to be some sort of time constraint, if Sara should show up at the village in 6 months, 1,2, 3+ years, should she still be promoted to a full monk?

The Ensigerum would have to incredibly stupid to promote her to a full monk, just because she made it back alive. The longer she is captive or away from the group, the higher the chance that she would turn on the Ensigerum.

When humans communicate, there are a lot of implicit assumptions being made by both the speaker and listener. Obviously her words are not absolute with no constraints. But you need to be an idiot not to be able to figure out at least the most basic of those.

BTW, not calling _you_ an idiot directly.

you guys seem to be assuming that the reward for the second "test" is the same as the reward would have been for the first test that she already failed miserably.

i highly doubt that would be the caase in an organization like that. Personally, i think the hypothetical consolation prize for Sara managing to escape, is that she would recieve a relatively quick, painless, and somewhat honorable death administered to her as opposed to a lengthly, ardous interrogation followed by an equally agonizing and humiliating demise.

Because Anita's probably just a bitch like that.

Yeah, like . . . what does it mean when an eighteen-year old trained monkish stone killer pouts like a school girl when she's mad at her brother?

Sure was cute, though.

IMO, Jon is just that damn good. No need for latent or subconscious magic.
