One of the products we've been wanting to do for a VERY long time is Ellis plushies. We'd like to get some general idea of how much interest there is in this, so please comment here, etc.

Basically, we're trying to decide between a $12 Ellis plushy that's approximately the size of a beanie baby (perfect for carrying around on a shoulder or putting on top of your monitor), or a $20-$25 Ellis plushy that's about the size of your average teddy bear. The smaller one is obviously a LOT easier for us to invest in because it costs a lot less, while the larger one is kinda Ellis-sized and thus very nifty even if it's an ungodly amount of money to make them. It's come down to which we think will sell better, so please vote!

I'd get both, honestly. I have a habit of collecting stuffed animals. My favorite ones in my collection are the Monty Python Bunny and the Red Dragon.... and the little white kitten with a lop-sided santa hat on it's head. It's so cute!

Note: This post is very likely not representative of "normal" ES readers.

Knowing the audience of ES, the $12 plushie would be more affordable for most. I, for one, would definitely buy it. I'd love to have an Ellis perched on my monitor or maybe attached to a keychain of some sort.

I would wager most people would go for this one because of size issues and money issues. A tiny Ellis is easier to carry around, fits in more places, and is easier to stuff into a drawer when you don't want to explain why you read online webcomics and why you bought a flying cat familiar plushie from one.

IF we're going to carry these before next year some time, we have about a week to get this figured out. Production times are about twelve weeks, and we want them for Otakon* if we're doing them this year instead of waiting until next year.

So, erm... fight it out, everyone!

^-^'

*We're not confirmed for Otakon, but I do plan to try to attend. I haven't got dealer's space confirmed yet, though, so don't take this as any kind of official announcement that we'll be there. It's just a comment that if we're going to sell plushies, having them made in time to bring them with us to one of the biggest anime cons in the country is generally a good idea.

I'd say go for it then. Make a certain number, judge your demand by the sales of that number and see if it's really going to be worth a mass effort to sell them. The con will really help your sales, I'm sure. Any con I've ever been to has seen me walk away with lots of cute things in tow, and an Ellis plushie would just be so irresistibly cute.

If you make that first batch, and sales are lackluster, then you know it's not worth it and you can minimize your losses by not over-producing the first time around. If you sell out quickly enough, then you know to make the second batch roughly 1.5 times the first batch's number. If those sell out quickly too, then you stick with that number for the third batch -- sales will level off at some point and you don't want to eat all those extra plushies.

Sorry, if I got an Ellis plushy, my Cthulu plushy would get angry, and he knows where I sleep.

I'd go for a Rape-kun plushie myself, it could keep other things nice and warm.

I... I want a Rape-kun plushie. An ellis plushie would be fine too.

In much the manner a cat is fine too... :-D

Jokeing aside... I totally would get an ellis plushie, teddy bear-sized as long as it's not something silly at the price range of a bajillion dollars, $20-25 is definitely acceptable.

A Beanie sized Ellis would be great.

I'd buy either size if you made either, but probably not both if you made both.

If you do ever sell Rape-kun beanies or plushies in the future, it'd be nice if they and Ellis were the same size. (Then we could stage imaginary familiar fights without it looking patently ridiculous.)

It's looking like we're going to go with a kitten-sized Ellis plush for now(since we measured our kitten for the proportions), which will be about nine inches from nose to rump not counting the tail, or about the size of a sneaker or medium teddy-bear. Once constructed, these should be about the right size to carry across your shoulders, hug, or put in a backpack. They'll probably take up most of the top of the monitor if you want to put it there (not recommended for flat screens, of course).

The way we're going to handle orders and pre-orders for the Ellis plushies: Once we have a prototype worked out and approved with the good folks who are manufacturing these for us, we'll go ahead and place the order, then put them up in the store for pre-orders. Pre-ordered plushies will be offered at a moderately discounted price, and will have a guaranteed ship date listed in the store description, since these pre-orders are mostly to help us get that initial rush of sales that will pay for these things. This pre-order will be guaranteed to be produced and shipped by a specific date. There will be no delays and no cancellations.

At a guess, they'll go up for pre-order in late April, with a guaranteed ship date somewhere in mid-July. We'll need to sell about 170 of these plushies before we'll make a profit, so if you're interested in buying one please PLAN to place a pre-order sometime between now and July (preferably as soon as they go up in the store, since we'll have to make a huge payment on them basically as soon as we've got the design approved). Seriously, start putting spare change in a shoebox if that's what it takes. Otherwise, we're going to be really, REALLY stressed come Otakon (which I'm sending my registration for tomorrow morning) because we'll be spending an awful lot of money right beforehand.

^-^'

Either size works for me. Hell, I'd probably get both sizes but get a full Rape-kun, beanie sized Ellis, and Life-sized Nookie Faery.

So it's the $25 one?
I think I will need to pre-order a couple.

Please, please, PLEASE make available a plushie ballgag for it. That would be funny beyond words.

If I was the sort to buy stuffed animals instead of automatic weaponry, I'd definitely get the beanie baby-sized Ellis and stick it on top of my monitor. Whenever something I read on the internet pissed me off, I'd backhand his smartass instead of cursing like a sailor who just caught his dong in his zipper.

I'd buy one if I had any money.

Unfortunately, I don't, so I can't.
