Essentially, they agree with Impy that Sarine is not going to risk alienating Jon. Jon still hasn't agreed to her mission. Using magic on him is the fastest way to piss him off.
Would that really be any better at alienating him than having to kill his sister before his eyes, because she underestimates Sara's determination to fight to the death?
This whole arc feels weird to me. If there is one gap in Sarine's knowledge of how humans work, it must be that she doesn't grok family. Remember, we've been told that elves generally don't have siblings, and that the parent/child relationship becomes almost embarrassing to elves once they come of age. Surely Sarine is wise enough to know that her understanding of the brother/sister relationship is flawed as a result. So why is she taking the multiple chances of dying in combat, getting killed by Jon if she does have to kill Sara in combat, or just losing Jon as a result of
threatening to kill Sara? It just doesn't seem like Sarine.
Well, in six hours or so, all will be revealed -- sort of. Or maybe not; I just noticed that there have been 18 strips since the start of this chapter, and that's roughly how long chapters have been recently...
