This strip just makes me like Sarine in general. This and the last. I miss the jacket, though. Something about it appealed to me.

I thought there was a small convo between Sarine and one of her Elf Friends in Elfy Land last time she was there to report, that largely consisted of 'I dunno why I use this armor. Sucks against Magic Elf Crystals and Guns, and everyone seems to have Magic Elf Crystals or Guns now-a-days.'

I vote for ambidextrous.

I like the jacket as well. In general, I like the clothing depicted in ES. If nothing else, it's refreshing to see artwork of fantasy-setting females who aren't dressed like they're about to appear in a centerfold.

"I am not left-handed."

Yo. In the fight with Warrel Sarine sets up initially right-handed, switches to two-handed, then to the sword in her left hand and a spell in her right hand. After she is wounded she throws a dazzle spell with her left hand over her right shoulder, following with a right-handed back-slash to avoid putting weight on her bad left leg.

It is worth noting that duels function completely different to outright wars.

Nobody uses a halberd in what should be a sword fight, after-all.

Entirely dependent on local cultural traditions. No reason why the monks would picky about it.

Sarine may be naturally Right or Left handed. The Important thing to note is that she is an elf. she's been alive so long that she could easily have mastered fighting with her naturally weaker hand.

Woah, that looks... really formal. Much more so than I expected, given both their natures.

Not so much for Sara. While Elves seem to have a 'thing' for duels, Sara either doesn't give a shit about them like the rest of the order, or just doesn't give a shit.

And about the hands.... The lifted hand seems a bit odd, maybe Sarine just put up her hair with her right hand, and is going to switch over now?

Or maybe she's noted that Sara is right-handed (is she?) and is trying to take any edge she can get. I've heard that very few people can defend well against left-handed attacks in fencing. T/F?

The left-hander has a natural advantage in fencing, mostly by the fact that there are comparatively few left-handers fencing. If there were more, the advantage wouldn't be so great. But the advantage can't be that great o'wise there'd be more LH at the top.

Faced with a LH for the first time, RH fencer will normally try to attack in carte - going around the blade to hit chest - but this is the LH natural defence. Once you've figured quirks like this, fencing a LH is not so bad. The LH disadvantage is that their natural attack is down the RH blade; trying to hit the RH's chest, exposes their arm. So things can even themselves out.

What must fuck a LH's mind is meeting another LH fencer. Not something a LH comes across very often so their mind-set is usually against RH fencers.

The LH disadvantage is that the kit is dearer. For example, the tang - the base of the blade above the guard - has to be bent in the appropriate direction for LH or RH.

BTW, if Sarine tries to advance from her current position, she's going to fall over

Keeping one's off hand raised behind oneself is not all that uncommon. It keeps the hand out of striking range and also helps a lot with balance if your style involves a lot of forward/backward weight shifting. Keeping said hand on your back hip sometimes works for this too.

The other common place to keep the off hand, for a very different style, is near the chest as though holding a shield; the hand itself can function as a very small amount of protection, and from that position is ready to bash or grapple as well. But with Durus Flammas that style seems... less than useful.

Since when does everything on the internet have to work to D&D rules?

It doesn't, this story is a good example of that.

So little sister or the source of elf nookie? I think if I were jon I'd have my gun loaded right now
