no... they are just hearing the shot that ellis fired trying to kill jon. the chronology of the strips is hopping around and this means that sara will probably get cold cocked while shes not looking

The shot "sounded" close by. Meaning, it uses large typography. I would imagine Sarine would not be silly enough to fight close enough to the campsite that the noise of the fight would wake Jon.

I'm guessing Jon managed to find them, and they ignored the first shot due to it being far away and them too busy slashing at each other.

One minor-ish detail. In the last panel, Sarine is face-down with Sara about to rabbit-punch her when Jon gets her attention.

Jon just wants in on the sandwich. They both like their men kind of rugged and fuzzy.

I'd say Sarine is face-up in the last panel and Sara is about to knock her a good one.

If it was the other way around, we wouldn't be seeing the back of Sarine's head.

No, she's face up, on her back not belly. Look at her hand in the right corner of the panel.

And did anybody notice her hair is down again? A continuity mishap?

And besides I can understand Sara, she must be a bit of a sore loser, just like me, I mean if losing didn't hurt where would be the incentive not to lose, I mean victory has its own awards but there are potentialy many places before the last...

As I said in my first post, this is likely Ellis shooting. If not, we would have heard at least two shots during the fight.

Some a' ya'll have been taking the fight too seriously.. I mean COME ON; If Sara could chrono'd the entire time, why didn't she just hyper-speed karate chop Sarine in the throat, or pick up her weapon and gut her?

Because she's enjoying this..

and so am I.

This fight is FUNNY :D

Oh, and one last thing: their pose in the final frame.. kinda.. sorta.. maybe looks a little familiar..

any takers? ;)

I went back a bit and after Ellis shot the gun, Jon utters 'Oh' and the scene cuts to Sara and Sarine facing each other. I think that's the real continuity and this was a second shot, this time a 'warning' shot reminding Sara to play fair and take the punch like a 'man'.

If it was, Sara wouldn't be as surprised at the second shot.

Also, Ellis has plenty of time to wake up, stretch, and play with the gun. Doesn't seem as if it would take that long a time for the two to get started in this strip. So, there is very likely a chronological shift in that strip, and I'd say the way the panels are laid out would support this.

It's a long shot but it'd be funny if Sara actually pushed Sarine down to avoid getting hit by the wild shot.

Edit: Whoops, Sara does look surprised... but it'd still be funny if the shot had whooshed above their heads.

Nah, the first shot happened before they faced off.

So despite hearing a gunshot from the direction of a supposedly sleeping Jon, they still decide to square off rather than postpone it in favour of an investigation? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Unless they have some way of knowing for sure that there's no danger around, I suppose. But wouldn't they still expect Jon to show up, given that he'd obviously be awake and wonder where they went off to without him?

Or did Sarine leave a note telling him to stay in camp while she and Sara are off skinnydipping?

Yes, that first shot and the lack of reaction to it don't fit into the rest of the story that well, the shot is a good side joke, but it doesn't make much sense there would be no reaction to the shot from the two.

A problem it is indeed, unless it truely is the shot that Ellis fires off. In that case, my time sense is seriously FUBAR.

They fell down on top of each other, causing their clothes to spontaneously fall off.

I've never gone hunting, but with the number of gun-knowoldgable people in this forum, I'd be surprised if noone can answer this question. How far can a shot be heard in a forest? I'd imagine all the leafy terrain would make for good sound insulation. During hunting season, do you hear all the people firing from miles away, or are shots easily lost in the background noise?

It could be that they went far enough that the first gunshot went unheard, which is also why it took Jon this long to find them both.

Definitely face-down. Look at her ears, in detail.
