I'm just not sure why Sara and Jon are going to go along with it. Neither of them has any reason to go and they both have good reasons not to:

Jon is (or bloody well should be) suspicious of Sarine's intentions regarding Meji and Ian, and knows she can't really be trusted to be straight with him.

Sara may or may not want to stay with her brother, but she has no real reason to regard Sarine as anything other than a threat to be avoided or an enemy to be stabbed in the back (preferably whilst sleeping).

I don't get why Sarine thinks they both are going to start taking orders from her. Neither of them need anything from her and it isn't as if she's going to kill them if they try to leave. There's no benefit for either of them in becoming her bitches.

Howzabout . . . she has lots of money, she is willing to pay them, and they have nowhere else to go?

Money is great for clarifying all those other reasons people mention.

Addenda: Oh, yeah. Jon just went to #1 on the Ensirgim's "Most Wanted for Slow Death by Torture and Possible Impalment" list and Sarine is the only possible ally available to him.

Actually, I smell an exposition coming up really soon now. Sarine is going to have to start explaining things. Definitely for Jon's sake. He may be psychologically committed but he isn't quite yet hooked in here.

Edit: Oh yeah, It has not escaped Jon's attention that if Sarine hadn't been there covering his back, he would be toast. Sliced toast. Ergo, he owes her something.

Yeah; I was puzzled by that, too. There is supposed to be a spelling rule in English that you hyphenate words at morpheme boundaries. Of course, most English-speaking people don't have a clue about morphemes, which sorta interferes with following any rule that involves them. But this is a case that really should be edited from "beo-varied" to "be-ovaried", because it's gonna be somewhat of a distraction to many readers.

And now I'll have to look for opportunities to use "beovaried". It's as good a word as "enboobened" or "vaginated", really. Funny I don't seem to recall seeing any masculine versions of words like these ...

Probably because any such words tend to be perceived as verbs rather than adjectives-- things that are done to a person rather than qualities of whoever might theoretically be doing such things to a person.

Actually the hyphen was something photoshop's text tool put there automaticly, and I was too tired and ill to notice the bloody word break.

Yes, it took me a while to figure out too. I believe it's because the word - which is made up to begin with - extends to the next line.

English is fairly flexible, but still...

Thank you. I needed that laugh. I have no idea why, but that's the funniest word, just sitting there by itself in isolation, I've seen in a long time.

I really wanted Sara to resort to time magic and get bitchslapped anyway. Ah well.

Sarine's pulling what my ex-fiancee did - assume total command over everything that's happening around her until I blow up at her and leave, telling her she's a goddamn fucking...

I-I mean, Sara will probably be a wonderful addition to the team. I would've thought Julie was more of a professional too if she was three thousand years old.

Now that the "be-ovaried" conflict is settled, would not the two "What?" balloons in the last panel make more sense as "Why?"

Yes and as in nature, the alpha bitch rules the roost. She has the mission, the funds, and the alpha male is already beholden to her in a number of ways.

While funny, the analysis of human (or elven) interaction as if it's simple wolf-pack dynamics is seriously lacking in, oh, accuracy and scientific support.

Just saying.

I'm just entertained that Sarine didn't aknowledge Jon until (a) he'd had a brief chat with Ellis about beovaring and (b) she'd corrected Sarah. Also I think what works better than why because they want to know what she's saying and asking why she said so implies a different inteterest. Incidently do guy's really just measure who's is longer instead of discussing things?
