For me plan A is try and figure out what they want first since this is Tsurikiel it could be anything from "Why are you bringing weapons in" to "Excuse me do you know a girl named Meiji?" in this case ah well wait and see wait and see. Afterall if they were planning on the kill/detain strategy its likely they'd be more brusque "Come with us" or have more guards gathering around them as it is they're saying "Excuse me sir and madams we need to speak with you please." and at least one guard has his back to them hardly hostile behaviour.

The country is Tsuiraku, the city Tsuirakushiti. I can't even begin to guess where you got Tsurikiel from. The name of the city was spelled in this very comic, even.

Also, Meiji was a japanese emperor, Meji is a half-elf. Hard to keep straight, I know.

A thing to keep in mind about Jon's plan is that while most Americans outside their country are trying to make themselves understood by the natives, Jon is attempting the opposite. He knows they can undertand him (after all, he understood them), so he had to 'make up a language they couldn't understand' on the spot.

I should check to see if these facts are in the Wiki but they should be;
"Hello, I am Sarine Elle, daughter of Elven Council woman XXX. My rank is Peregrine and we are here regarding that matter in the recent missives. I ask for your discreet cooperation. These are my assistants."

This would only be bending the truth oh-so-slightly and every fact stated therein would be 100% true. The missing piece is that she's not sanctioned by the Elven Council, a minor detail.

I don't recall anyone coming after her the whole time she was gone. Poor Meji, she's from one of those neglectful homes.

Why should they bother looking for her when they knew that she was going to be gone for a few months because she left to work on her senior project?

Well, agreed. Still, all mothers (even "sluts") are usually protective of their offspring. IIRC, there's no mention of contact when she returns. Meji doesn't mention her parents - at least in an affectionate way, that often. No parting gifts, no good luck charms. She looks and acts very independantly.

I think this is a "random" passager check. Remember there was a reference to a 9-11 similar incident earlier in the comic.

It's Peregin, not Peregrine, but more substantially, where did you get the idea that Sarine is the daughter of someone on the Elven Council? She once mentioned becoming a ranger to make her <s>mot--</s>"relations" happy, but never said just what role her mother played. I'm pretty sure that Sarine is not going to out-and-out lie to these people, although it's likely that she'll be evasive. (The rest of your predicted quote is a good example of how she might do that.)

Personally, I vote for this just being animal quarantine. We've already been told that unescorted familiars give the Department of Tsuirakuan Homeland Security heartburn. Would a familiar who's escorted, but not bound to the escort, have the same effect? Sounds sensible to me, in a sort of paranoid way.

When she went back home and had it out with the Elven council. I have to cross-check of course. That's why she still had access to the Council Chamber.

BTW, I agree, it's probably because of Ellis and some sort of Familiar Control crap.

It's been like 16 years since the last elf came to tsuirakushiti, and it is the annoying cat familiar people think caused the problems?

Um, I can't help but feel compelled to mention that *if* the guards detected Sarine as an elf.. wouldn't they speak to -her- first?

No human in the comic so far has instantaneously known that she's an elf, why would it start now?

here's what I think is going on, (i believe it was hinted at by another person):

Our Happy-go-lucky Trio leave the warpgate platform, whereupon almost immediately, Sara notices a gate operator and a guard watching her, and they eye her (with enough suspicion that the gate operator specifically points HER out).

Sara: "The Ensigerum has multiple plans under consideration for how to get in and out of here undetected.... As far as I know, none of them are to the point of actually being tried out."

Well, here's the situation: the reason why they (the Ensigerum) need to make not just one, but several extensive plans (in the sense that they seem to require longterm preparation) for entering that city are clear. Because apparantly, one member of the order has JUST. BEEN. DETECTED.

Reason they are stopped: Ellis needs to stay six months in quarantene to avoid spreading animal diseases.

Really entertaining: "We have a request from a councilman to detain a party of your description, for an inquiry concerning a missing familiar" He then projects a holo giving Meji's images of Jon and Sarine. Jon would look like a Geico caveman and Sarine would look three thousand years old, with foot-long ears, huge breasts, and a giant derriere.

I think she had access because she was in the Viradior, they are special forces/royal guard after all. She did mention that was despite her retiring centuries ago.

This triggered something else. Maybe it's because I've been working on the Tsuirakushiti timeline lately

Sarine is 3000 years old, non? This means that she was 1000 years old when Malacia fell and 1001 when Tsuirakushiti disappeared. Sarine remembers both incidents.

It also means that the Tsuirakuans knew nothing about the Errant War. Also, because humans have forgotten it and the elves aren't telling, the Tsuirakuans don't know about the schism wrt the half-elves. Tsuirakuans have never had the opportunity to make a choice on the half-elf issue.

I wish we had EasyTimeline working on the Wiki. :-(

What choice on the half-elven issue? They were half-elves+humans. But it's not clear what happened to the half-elves, Ian thought they died out, meaning he doesn't think they were wiped out.

If Tsuirakuans know of the feud now is because Meji told them.

EDIT: If you mean their stance towards half-elves today, that's a tricky political question involving how much trouble from the elves Meji and half-elves in general are worth to Tsuiraku.

How about just a simple column solution in the interim?

Like this:

-3000 yrs birth of Sarine
-2000 yrs start of Errant war
-200 yrs Tsuiraku reappears
0 yrs today

That's sort of the point. However, Ian knows almost nothing about Tsuiraku.

But this is exactly the issue I was raising. Would Tsuiraku back Santauriel or not, given no prior animosity towards half-elves and that there may still be some elven blood running around through Tsuiraku's gene pool. After all, Tsuiraku's half-elves may have simply been absorbed and assimilated into the general population. IOW, they're ALL partial-elves (that would also explain the high prevalence of mage talent, which is much higher than that of the other human nations).

It is an interesting posibility. Whereas Santauriel's half-elfs avoided humans, causing all the inbreeding problems and errants, the tsuirakuan half-elfs bred with humans, diluting the elf blood and preventing both errants and another crash.

Alternatively, after hearing of the other city crashing, tsuirakuans dropped the half-elfs overboard.

Another possibility is that Tsuirakushiti's half-elves left to go fight for their brethren once the Errant War started.

Remember, just because Tsuirakushiti was hidden away from the world for almost 2,000 years, doesn't necessarily mean that the rest of the world was hidden away from Tsuirakushiti. Given what we know, they've *probably* been very isolationist; but sparse individuals may have been leaving Tsuirakushiti all along to go wander about the world.

No, because they wouldn't have been able to maintain their 1800 year isolation that way. Remember, no one even had a hint about Tsuirakushiti until Luminosita shorted out the Elven barrier/shield. No myths, no legends, nothing. Tsuirakushiti's re-appearance was a complete surprise to everyone, elves and humans alike. This means that the cloaking field worked both ways, maintaining strict isolation. It also implies a rather tyrannical government but that's another story/issue.

Not too likely. Such a genocide leaves scars on the society. Just look at the US today, it is still carrying the scars of the Native American genocide or the pre-1860's slave culture. Tsuirakushiti doesn't show those sorts of scars.
