As you all know, we are in the process of gearing up to take a somewhat more hands-off approach to running the boards. The intention is to put the community into the hands of... well, the community. Yes, the business will still have a bit of a guiding hand since we're liable for the content and we don't want to wind up taking responsibility for things which are ultimately damaging for Poe's career (like, we're not sanctioning anything illegal), but for the most part we think it'd be more fun if the board were largely run as exactly what it should be: a fan community.

To that end, we're testing out a new way of creating moderators... a combination of appointing people and electing people, with the goal being to maintain a balance of power. One of the new moderators has already been selected: AncientVikingMaster (Jim) is the moderator we've appointed. The other is up to you.

The people suggested in the other thread were:

Slamlander (he declined, and is thus not on the ballot)
Graybeard (he said he was willing to try, and thus IS on the ballot)
Boss Out of Town (who I think said he was willing to try, and thus is on the ballot)
Kestenvarn (who I don't think got my e-mail, but he's on the ballot anyways and if he doesn't want to do it he can always just say so)

Go ahead and vote, the poll ends in five days.

^-^'

Does that mean that BOoT is winning by 2 votes, instead of 1?

It looks to me like there's a dead race between BOoT and that 4th guy.

I don't envy anyone who takes on the task of moderating the ES forum.

The "no comic today?" thread from the 4th would have earned at least half a dozen posters warnings, and then probably week-long bannings, from myself or one of the other moderators, on either of the boards I'm a moderator on.

It's insane.

Usually an active mod would have shut it down before that started happening.

Well, yes, there is that. In fact, if none of the mods were on during that exchange, it would have resulted in a locked thread and bannings. We don't screw around.

Hrm, that of course brings to question: why only have one active mod?

Ah, I thought he already was one. Account sharing or something.

Nope, I have my own account... and, if you notice, I even participate occasionally.

I've been a lurker for ages (Some of you may remember my old acct, wherein I just called myself Zero) and often accompany Impy and Poe to conventions when The Ex-Intern isn't man enough (she's a girl, after all) to get the job done by herself. I was at Teko and Otakon last year, and drug Impy with me to Philcon (I'm an aspiring scifi author). I attended ACEN this year, and was hoping to do DragonCon, however that appears to be out due to some personal stuff I've got going on.

I can be readily identified... I'm the really big guy in the straw field hat with the horns glued to it. I also, to aide in drawing attention to the wonderful products and courageous staff at Caffeine Angel Studios, have been known to occasionally dress up as a catboy and dance around in front of the booth. *twitches* The things I do for my friends.

As to my mod credentials... I was a looooong standing member of the Deep13.org community, wherein I've been a chat and forum moderator, admin, and occasional guy-in-charge during transitional periods. I also run my own website, http://www.vikingspace.com, which features my collaborative webcomic "Jim The Viking", a 11-year-old free-form forum-based RPG (of which I'm also a mod), and anything else that I feel like putting up.

I think the best way to put it would be 'fantastic scifi'... oh, and comedy.

The current series I'm working on is definitely set in the far future in space, but it's not 'hard scifi' with fully realistic science and twenty page long descriptions on how the transporter works. Instead of trying to explain how it works (dense quantum scanners and Heisenberg neutralizers... you know, Star Trek technobabble) , I've tried to focus more on the realm of and how it feels to be disassembled and reassembled at an atomic level (like you were sucked up and spat back out piece by piece by a technicolor glitter tornado on hallucinogens).

My style also bears many of the trappings of traditional pulp scifi universes, because I a) love classic trashy scifi novels, the sorts where the edges of the paper were all blue or red, and b) think that we're gradually swinging back away from the hard scifi and into an era when we stop asking "how come" and start asking "what if" again.

I've got a writing blog, albeit a horribly un-updated one, at http://www.erikanson.com, which is my nom de plume. In fact, I suspect if you check shortly, you'll find most of the statement I just made copied and pasted verbatim in as a new log entry, because it's fairly good stuff.

Counting the one mis-vote, it appears that our winner is Boss Out of Town.

I'll get you and AncientVikingMaster set up soonish.

Gosh, I won? Speaking as the guy who always got picked last in gym class, I am incredibly honored.

Now, if they can only find an administrator . . .
