I would consider buying it 17%  17%  [ 4 ]
I would not buy it 8%  8%  [ 2 ]

Wow! A question I can answer.

Yes, there will be another volume of Errant Story published. In fact, there will be many more volumes, as long as they sell well naturally.

The comic is up to volume 5 as of now... it might be working on volume 6 if I'm doing my math correct. IN fact, the story has been planned out up to Volume 9 so far.

Hope that answers enough.

At this point, we're trying to find a publisher for the series. If we can't find one fairly soon (see: in the next year... publishers take time to find, and we've decided to seek an agent first which will make it take longer), then we'll put Volume Three up for pre-order after that, and plan to self-publish again.

We are also looking into producing disc volumes of the comic, as a sort of disc collection/slowly growing box set. Each disc will be like a volume of the book, but they're more likely to appeal to newcomers to the comic in need of a quick way to catch up. Since these discs are MUCH faster and less expensive to make, they should be available much sooner than Volume Three in print will be. We'd like to have at least Volume One done by Dragon*Con this year, though that may be too ambitious given our hectic schedule with everything else.

Oh, and I should note that because we want to be able to sell the books in bookstores via a publisher, we may have to tone things down for future printings so that they don't have to have the MA label put on them. The discs, however, will be the uncensored versions of the comics, since there are no plans to sell them in stores.

^-^'

P.S. We're still in Volume Five, and should be until late winter/early spring of next year. We're about halfway through the synopsis of that volume right now.

great :) been looking forward to it for a long time... always been an ink-on-paper kinda guy, and it's always been a pleasure to re-read everything in page-turner fashion.

I will be very sad if I have to chose between an ink and paper copy and an uncensored copy. I know that from a purist standpoint I can't take censored, but I also like printed a lot...

Yep, I worked with them for Otakon.

I made my first mistake by trying to sell the books without reading the comic first... I pointed to Sarine and called her Meji. At which point Poe and Impy sat me down with Errant Story Vol. 1 and said.

"OMGWTFBBQ! Read, now!"

Maybe not that excited...

I've found that I just plain liked the 'censored' comics. '@#$%' works well enough (for Jon's reaction to finding out he'd just dry-gulched some elves, it worked perfectly), and ubiquitous cursing has gotten boring. Dreary. No longer gets a rise out of me merely due to its presense. Like free online porn. I've gotten jaded here.

If this is holding back a potential audience for the comic, it just ain't worth it.

Besides, the advantage of "%^*&$" over more generic terms is that, really, it frees the imagination to fill in the blank with words so hostile they don't even exist yet.

So I take it this means that Exploitation Now: Done With It All is still on the Duke Nukem Forever timeline?

Agreed. A string of expletives is great relief when you've nailed a board on backwords--bad carpenters like myself understand that---but it is a bad substitute for good writing. If you've got more than one @#$% in a sentence, you've removed the camaflouge: you notice how little is actually being said. The original expletives tend to obscure that.

Of course, my only recent flare of anger came when Sarine referred to someone as a "guy." Three thousand years old and she talks Tim Allen vernacular? That's Jon's job.

Language honestly didn't occur to me when I first read the line about censoring the comic. I thought of thematic issues first, and specifically the sex/rape (Does a mind wipe count as rape?) scene with Sarine and Jon.

While nudity isn't a mainstay of the comic, I'd hate to see the parts where it's appropriate removed. Then again, this example may be a moot point, what volume does the comic I mentioned appear in? Although the issue could always come up in a later volume.

I recently ordered vol 1 & 2 but they have not yet arrived ;)

Edit: I just noticed that http://www.errantstory.com/archive.php?date=2006-04-17 once again has nudity; although it wouldn't be -that- difficult to crop the bottom of the panel a bit higher up. So that's what I would consider the most 'damaging' censorship. Making curses into $&%*# has little impact, as others mentioned.

mm. Good point... that scene was beautifully done, would be a shame to see it "fixed" - particularly since it would lessen the effect of the "Ellis losing his appetite" montage.

Thank you for that excellent explanation for when "fuck", "shit", and "%^*&$" appear in the same speech bubble (a phenomenon that has, in the past, amused me to no end).
