Pretty sure he knows what he's doing. That's not a word you utter when you're just guessing whether it works or not.

Now, whether the word is Ian's idea, or Anilis's is a different story all-together.

Huh. I guess Luminosita really is just a massive energy-puppet. I'd kindof hoped for more than that.

Oh hell yeah that is awesome. If Ian defeats the biggest, most powerful ball of magic most people in this world have ever seen, with half the effort of saying "go away" (well ok... it's half the words but the same number of letters... one less syllable though)... that would be so climactically anticlimactic it would rock.

Then again, I once wrote a fantasy story wherein, as ancient and mighty forces gathered to make the war to end all wars, a few special people managed to track down and release/reawaken their creator-god (who had been rendered trapped/unconcious early in the history of this world by some of his more powerful creations), who, upon seeing the mess that his creation had become, said basically the equivalent of "Computer, end program" and made it all go away without even a flash. So, maybe I just like that kind of thing.

The wierd thing is seeing Ian's face in that last panel. Blood flowing from his nose, face starting to crack, ears looking like Mr. Nimoy's after leaving them in the California sun. I'd say it's looking like poor Ian's about to reach his Physical Limit and the body just can't handle the spirit.

So long Ian, it's been fun.

Classicaly this would be followed by a cataclysmic burst of magical energy, like that time with the elven barrier, but this being ES good ol' Lumi will probably just 'pop' out of existance quite unceremoniously, leaving Veracians in total state of shock. Much a'do about nothing.

On a side note, I have a continuity problem: Ian was struck by a beam but I didn't see how he got outside, did he evade it or did he made an imprint in the ground before picking himself up for a showdown, or what?

From the August 3 strip . . .
Exiled Soul wrote:
Meanwhile, Ian appears to have been struck by the flaming sword of an archangel, assuming said archangel was the size of Godzilla. Which would be very Milton, if true.

Carrying forward from that description, in the August 8 strip Ian was caught and swept away by the sword stroke (panel one), then hurled clear of the buiding (panel two), regained control (panel three) and hovered, evaluating Luminosita (panel four). Today, Luminosita bellows his challenge (panel one) and hacks directly downward at Ian with his axe (panel two). Ian catches a blade that could bisect a battle cruiser (panel three) with a hand and forearm and, having analyzed his attacker's substance, utters a simple spell (panel four) that will dissolve the construct.

If the patriarch doesn't have a back-up system for controlling and channeling the pokegod, could be fight's over on Monday.

Unless they gave him protections from ordinary dispel magics... You know, just in case they were in a long-standing war with... oh, say, a country full of MAGES, for example.

*coughs* Sorry, I simply couldn't resist commenting sarcastically...

Personally I'd really love for this to beat Luminosita with no fuss. It'd just be delightful to see the big, angry, flaming false-god bellowing challenges and pompous claims of legitimacy pop out of existance with barely a sound.

I am in awe that Ian simply used his forearm and a hand to block the axe-of-god. Even then, the axe appears to have slightly embedded in his arm and even I have to admit that Ian seems to be bleeding profusely through his various orfices, so Ian does have limits.

I just wonder whether Luminosita is spouting those lines of his own free will, or if he has been brainwashed to spout the party line by the Veracian Church.

I just had a thought about the dispel - perhaps the spell is not to dispel Luminosita, but perhaps just his axe. Then again, perhaps Ian just dispeled the enchantment that the Veracian church used to control Luminosita. Hmmm, if Luminosita suddenly has free will again, I wonder if he will be vengeful about being controlled by such paltry little beings and exact retribution on the church and city and country.

This really begs the question as to how the Veracian church was started and how they created Luminosita in the first place.

Hello, welcome to Luminosita. You have reached the prerecorded greeting for all Heretics. Please say "Aaaaaaarrrrgggghhh" to die or if you are a half-elf-god please say "Dispel" to blow our server to smithereens.

Now, will it be a magical explosion and mushroom cloud or a just a "bzzt" and then nothing? (Although it would be kind of funny if he just dispelled his sword).

I believe that the efficacy of the dispell is somewhat dependent on the strength of the mage that is casting it. It would take a gi-normously powerful mage to dispell something like Luminosita. Like a mage harnessing the total power of the goddess Anilis, for instance.

On the other hand, all over the wiki I note mentions of how Veracia nearly lost Luminosita, on the Elven Barrier/Sheild, and have therefore resisted using him during the Mage/Priest Wars for exactly that reason. It might indeed be possible for a sufficiently large group of Tsuirakuan BattleMages to collectively cast a Dispell powerful enough to dispell Luminosita and the threat of that is exactly what got Veracia to back down.

I also note that there is no mention of such hesitancy when Veracia attacked the Confederation (well-known to not be magic users). However, Veracia still lost. I wonder how long the Confederacy would hesitate once Luminosita is dispelled? Place bets in increments of hours.

I dunno, Luminositass is packed full of stored and pent up magical energy. Suddenly releasing all that energy, unless immediately sucked up by Anilis, could result in a pretty good fireworks show.

One side-effect though; If Anilis supps on that energy, the remaining Veracians would be bowing down to the real Goddess. Humans are sort of wired that way.

My bets on 39 hours.

...

Gotta wait a little bit for the news to travel, right?

As a magical construct, I don't think Luminosita has a will of its own. It only says what it's told to say (or programmed to say). Somehow, I doubt a theocratic magocracy would give their secret weapon more than a rudimentary program, and if Luminosita's control enchantment is destroyed, it'll probably just dissipate. (The violence and speed of that dissipation depends entirely on how magic works and how Luminosita's power was contained in the first place.)

I noticed that Ian started getting all bloody when he was swatted with the Pokegod sword. Personally, I think it is less that Ian is succumbing to his own power, and more that the pokesword attack dealt physical damage to him, compounded by being blown through the wall/ceiling.

One might note the slightly more damaged appearence from one comic to the next as Ian does further battle with the pokegod. It could be one of those DBZ things: the clothes take more damage than the person.

Could be wishful thinking on my part to see Ian surviving the smackdown with Luminosita.
