I've discovered an empty newsgroup, alt.fan.webcomics.

My plan is to swarm en masse and annex this newsgroup and establish the dominant presence there before the MegaTokyo fans discover it and claim it for their own.

Can you explain to me what a newsgroup is?
Is it like a e-mail thing?

There you go. That's enough community service for one cybernetic day, I think.

The nice thing about discovering this newsgroup is it gives everyone a back-up emergency place to meed and gab whenever the forums of your favorite webcomic are down.

I wonder how many other completely abandoned and empty newsgroups there are that I could take over and use for evil purposes.

IMHO opinion, there is only one reson for the existence of newsgroups. That is alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.lesbians

thousands of free lesbian pictures posted daily. Check out any of the place from alt.binaries.pictures.erotica and you can find every type of porn imaginable, all for free. From hentai (alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.anime) to pornstars, to soft core, to fetish. Every porn need you could ever have is fulfilled.

Trust me, it's awesome.

In IE go to tools and then to mail and news, and in netscape I'm pretty sure its a button at the bottom right, or a dropdown option from the top. If you really need, I'm sure myself or someone else can post a more detailed description later.

A better idea is to get a third party news reader app, because the built in ones can be pretty useless, plus they don't handle some of the attachment compression very well.

If you're using a mac, I suggest Thoth is the best one I've encountered so far, plus it handles Yenc which some don't.

Me am stupid. I dl'ed something called FTP Commander (it was free, so what the hell), but I don't think it works for those, so can you guys tell me a program (free, preferably) that does work?

Or there's Google Groups, although the interface kinda bites, and I don't know if it works with binaries...

Okay, well, just checked, and didn't even see alt.binaries listed, but the alt.fan.webcomics was in there. Just some Elf Life fans poking around; shouldn't be too hard to chase them off if some of the Expatriates show up.

BTW, not everyone's ISP gives them a newsfeed. That was generally thought to be a bad thing until AOL unleashed the hordes on Usenet. (To be fair, I think the hordes brought a lot of pr0n with them, so it wasn't an entirely bad thing.)

You'll need to know what your "NNTP server address" is before you can view any newsgroups.

Ah hah!

There are certain places on the In-tar-net that are magical and wonderful. Here are 3 of them:

http://www.32bit.com/

http://www.tucows.com/

(maybe) http://www.download.com/

Do yourself a favour, and download every damn ultility, even if you don't need 'em. Irfanview is very good for admiring your collection of pr0n, trust me.

Incidentally, Google won't but I believe there are various websites and companies that will give you a full newsfeed but the pr0n are warez are gonna cost ya.

BTW, Ghastly: Don't forget that the Mac anime club is doing a showing tonight, Friday night. You prolly already know from the club's forum, but I daren't visit that forum on the library computer that I'm using, defenseless against the tyranny of pop-ups.

I didn't know the Hamilton library had internet computers. What an age to be alive!

Yepper, I remembered the showing. Should be there. I think I offended some of the basement dwellers on the OSAMU BBS by talking about something other than anime and suggesting there is more to do on a saturday night than to sit in your parents basement and whack off to Card Captor Sakura hentai.

/me wonders how many people just cut-n-pasted that into their web browsers hoping for the pr0n
