It could be her daughter. Parents do name their children after themselves.

Well...yes. Considering the difference between the earlier pictures and this one, there's no way to be more sure than 'they look very similar', which could just be a family resemblance. But personally, that's just too flat-out bizarre for my poor little mind to handle, so I'm going to stick with them being the same person if that's okay with you. ^_^

Yeah, we can't use any set definition. This is Poe's world, he can do whatever the hell he wants to. So can any other fantasy writer. Ex: Half-elves CAN live forever in Tolkien, while even elves don't live forever in D&D.

Says such games like D&D and Rolemaster...however they have no relevance here. For all we know in Poe's world Half-Elves live just as long as Elves.

Also a thought has occured to me, we have as yet to meet a full-blood Elf other than Sarine, so for all we know Elves are the bad guys. Anybody here ever looked at Orkworld? Elves could be really twisted evil fuck that are purging Half-Elves just for the fun of killin somethin...Sarine might be a freak among her kind.

As for the question of why are we assuming that this women is Sarine- she looks exactly the same, wears the same clothes, and I think it would be kinda stupid if she wasn't the original Sarine. Thats just me though...

But remember that the old man said "He may have a little Elf in him" when talking about his extended youth. So it is very likely that Elf-hybrids do live longer then humans.

Hmmm, interesting point.

All we see of the 2000 years ago Sarine is her in the robe/dress she's wearing.

Also notice that both of the 2000 years-ago Sarine's ears are pierced twice, with two rings each. (Frames #2 and #3). However, this is most likely meant to be just one ear with the two rings in it, and poe's switched his left-right again, as happened often with Jordan's arm. But then again, the intro frame (Prologue) shows the right ear of 2000 years ago Sarine as without the two rings.

All of the artwork of the current Sarine in the backgrounds of the site show her without piercings. All of the artwork in the Gallery of her shows her without the two rings, and the only one of the 2000 years ago Sarine only shows a single ear, so the rings may be on the other side.

Maybe the piercings are a late addition to the character, for those strips, but we haven't seen current Sarine's ears yet.

Or maybe they are just a continuity flaw. And Poe's track record on right/left continuity and such is spotty... I'd never really noticed if ear-ring continuity was equally so. Not that I really care either way. It's a damn good comic (both of them, EN/ES).

So this is pure speculation, but not worth ruling out to start with, that Sarine now is the unborn daughter from 2000 years ago.

Kinda cool, actually.

That might also make the apology to her mother (now dead?), for killing an Errant, as her mother seemed rather opposed to it earlier.

Makes more sense to me than them being the same person, and her apology being to her daughter...

Unfortunatly piercings don't mean anything. Earrings can be removed and the the hole will heal.

Also you don't want to wear jewlry into a fight. It's just something for the other guy to grab a hold of and if anybody here has ever had a piercing ripped out, it hurts like a mother fucker.

I like the idea of this being Sarine of 2000 years ago. Here baby was one them mutated Errant babies and she was forced to kill it, now she hunts down rogue errants. I think it makes the story much more poignant and interesting.

My thoughts are still that her daughter is Meji, and she's out trying to find her, while doing random side quests as she goes.

Wait a minute...

Persecuted newborns...
A mother who is not quite human...
A child that is born of man, yet is not man...
2000 years ago...

Poe is setting up a Christ allegory for Serine’s child!

Eep. While I do like the idea of Poe doing a symbolism-metaphor thing in this one (it's generally agreed upon that this comic is more serious and planned), I certainly hope he doesn't use any church. Besides, this is in a fantasy world, which are more or less generally atheist, or at least less concentrated on religion.

Well, I'll be convinced when somebody sprays cheese whiz all over her to make her less dry and salty.

Mary was human, not inhuman, and Sarine was impregnated by perfectly normal means... As far as we know. Plus the child is born of an elf, impregnated by a man. Not of a normal human female who was impregnated by god

Actually according to Catholic Dogma Mary was half-angel. Mary of the immaculate conception. (She was the one concieved immaculately, not Jesus) ^_^ just my two cents (BTW, I'm atheist, just born a catholic)

Instead of the Christ allegory, he could be doing something out of "Xena: Warrior Princess."
