Sorry, siding with the hateful noob here. As long as Poe dosn't take away the violence, everything will be ok...

For the record, swear words were sometimes censored in EN, too, occasionally in the same strip as uncensored swears. I'd like to think the censored words are so vile that Poe's computer would explode if he tried to type them.

Ah right, If the censoring is used for comedic purposes, or to set a mood, than all is well.

If it becomes a regular occurance I would be sad.

Interesting thing that this topic should pop up a week after I finished my final essay on "The Translation of Swear Words or Vulgar Translation" for my BA in Translation.

I have to agree that censorship should not be put on swear words, but then again, as I wrote in my essay, if the original author wishes to convey a message through the censorship of a swear, it is because he wants to convey a feeling that no word would be able to describe.

That is one of the problems with our languages. We can't always put in words what we feel.

Hmm...I never really let that kind of censoring bother me. Not uncensored swearing either, although if swearing is used excessively, it looks kinda ugly. I don't know why - maybe because it's in writing rather than spoken?

(Come to think of it - when I'm talking I swear all the time, but not when I'm writing. Kinda odd.)

Anyway, when there is excessive swearing, I like censoring in the vein of "#!@%£!!!!", because it looks funny and leaves more room for imagination. =)

Everytime I see the #@$@%!! comic swearing I just think that they're kind of grumbling under their breath and not really swearing outloud.

I agree with Ghastly on this one. Personally, my favorite form of censoring (only when it conveys meaning, though) is scratching out the word so you can only see a few bits of the letters.

Censorship can be bad, but it does have its place and uses within society. I mean, without it no-one would be offended by you swearing so they would merely be considered noraml words and loose their effect.
