So far we've seen either 3 or 4 people with elf blood.

Pregnant Sarine: has long ears with smooth insides.

Derren: has ears a little larger than human with points. The inside is obscured.

Meji: has ears longer than Derren but less than half Sarine's length. They also have ridges inside.

Latter-day Sarine: ears long like P. Sarine, but they have ridges like Meji's.

My thought: the ridges are evidence of human heritage; people who are further from there elven forebears have ears that are more human-like. Derren's probably far removed from his elven ancestor, and Meji's not a half-elf; latter-day Sarine probably is, and is therefore P. Sarine's daughter.

On the other hand, none of the gallery elves(or the cover picture, for that matter) have ridged ears, but I think the gallery images weren't the final design of the characters (3 of the 4 elf pictures have larger, more upswept ears too).

I didn't see anyone else mention this in the archives, so I thought I'd post it.

Or perhaps un ridged ears denote innocence, hence pure ears go to pregnent lady... Or perhaps we are reading too much into this....

I doubt that Poe actually planned on using the internal ear ridges as a sign of anything other than how much of a close-up we were getting of the characters' faces.

But I do think that the pointier the ear, the purer the elf blood.

Dead rapist: half-elf at best, probably much more diluted.

Meji: probably half-elf. (I'm still holding out for her being Sarine's daughter, though this is becoming more and more questionable as time goes on.)

Sarine, both pregnant and errant-hunting: full elf - I'd bet almost anything that they're the same Sarine.

Don't think so. We had closeups of Pregnant Sarine in the very beginning (smooth) and closeup of H-K Sarine at the end of the prolouge; the ears are definitely different.

On this we agree.

Could be that poe dosn't give a damn about the inside of an ear, and only draws them according to the artistic effect it would give. That would be my guess.

I think this is another one of those pointless questions of whether or not Poe meant something, when the only way to tell is to be him. Or telepathy. And I'm working on that now.
