Not exactly errant story.

But anyway.

Eronarn, i know you're (or at least i gathered you were) a tyranid player and someone here recommended that for those short of cash the best way to start an army was to look on Ebay. In any case i found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 38785#DESC . I was wondering if this army would be worth buying? Is it value for money or is it being sold cheap because the painting is crap, damamged and it wouldn't work as an army. In any case i would really appreciate your opinion.

I'm no Tyranid expert, but it seems like it could at least be the start of a playable army.

Of course, I'm a bitter ex-Warhammer player devoted to destroying the hobby from within, so maybe I'm not the best guy to get advice from.

This is a good start. However, you need a lot more, specifically Hormagaunts, Termagants, Carnifexes, and Raveners. Maybe a lictor. My just-over-1500-point Tyranid Swarm consists of:

--HQ--
1 Hive Tyrant with maximum upgrades.
--ELITES--
6 Tyranid Warriors with a good mix of weaponry, both close combat and ranged.
1 Lictor
--TROOPS--
16 maximum mutated Hormagaunts, /w hive node
16 maximum mutated Termagants, /w hive node
12 Genestealers
5 maximum mutated Ripper Swarms
--FAST ATTACK--
3 Raveners with a mix of Rending Claws and Devourers
--HEAVY SUPPORT--
3 Biovores /w all spore mines
2 Carnifexes

I also have a Bio-titan, worth another 1,500 points, that I built myself. Together, this army is very versatile, though small. I recommend something similar to this, but with *many* more gaunts, probably about 40 of each kind, possibly dropping Termagants all together since Hormagaunts are much better. The less broods you have, the more mutations you can get, so try to keep your army fairly simple. If you changed it at all, I would recommend dropping the Raveners, and changing the Warriors to a winged species. Also, the Rippers could potentially be dropped. That's all the advice I can think of for now.

But would it be worth buying that army? Is it value for money? Or like you said would you need to completely rethink it?

Yes, that's a pretty good price for all of that. Less than GW, but it'll take time to make it a good-looking army. Buy it if you have the cash- it is a legal army that you can use as soon as it arrives.
