Yes, that could be the case - but since a) I doubt the author is going to tell us how a force bolt in his world rates in terns of N/m^2, and b) Meji probably didn't just bisect her familiar, it's probably safe to assume it's of the "really hard push" variety. =P

My assumption was that Meji's Force Bolt wasn't too different from D&D's Magic Missile: A bit of energy that smacks into someone but doesn't do insane amounts of damage.

I'm fairly certain that Ellis knows who Meji's mother is since everyone knows her grandfather, unless you are going with a Luke Skywalker style surrogate parent theory.
