Agreed, for a long time Gerald Tarrant was my role model, not because he was cool-evil, but because he was cool in that "You just fucked with me and nearly tricked me, so now I don't give half a fuck if you are immortal, I'm gonna kill you" sorta way.

Game, set, match.

Though I must say that on some level the idea of initiations being 'silly' and dumb more or less is rather prejudice, bsing the use of the term on the root; to 'pre-judge'.

A person choosing to act out an initiation in a post against another person is much like a person watching TV or reading a book, or RPing. Entertainment. Does it serve some ultimate purpose in the end? Not really, no, just entertainment.

Is that silly? Perhaps to some. A waste of time? Sure, one could say that... But then, if someone wants to 'waste their time' writing out something like that for entertainment purposes for themselves and others, then to hinder and ridicule is indeed being 'prejudice'.

Besides... We read Errant Story to be entertained, why can't we act out a little with words?

This is by no means a full explaination of my point, nor any kind of attack against anyone. I'm merely submitting my opinion.

I believe many work by the principle that there are three kinds of n00bs (or new forum members or whatever you feel like calling them): The irritating, trolling etc. etc. n00b, who should be initiated, possibly repeatedly, in the hope that he/she will learn, or at least provide some entertainment. The normal n00b, who does nothing wrong in particular, who is initiated as a sort of "friendly" welcome. And the very intelligent n00b, who gets a DNI by a veteran who feels like sparing them from the ravening hordes of would-be-initiators.

At least, that's what they told me, after I was initiated and then shot a few times.........

P: I am Pride of the n00bs, champion of Canada and first time poster, long time lurker

*As H-Kat watches he devisation, looking down from the nearby hills, his ears peak when he hears thse words uttured into the wind. Watching the n00bs merciless defeat, a frown crosses his face. He makes his way down the hill, boken at rest on his shoulder, and creeps his way to the base of the cliff.

He leans over Pride's battered body, and whispers into his ear.

"I am the true Champoin of Canada. Prepare yourself, for soon we shall clash"

He raises himself, and walks into the distance, ever ready, as the Koneko of the Flag, Champion of the splendor of Canada.*

This may be true but it keeps others from initiating me in other posts and besides my post has some relevance towards ES since it's a new chapter and everything and speculations should abound unlike some other starting threads *cough*runs into wall*cough* hehehe.

I wouldn't think of starting a thread without having anything relevant to say cause that would just be begging for large pointy things to be stuck into my rectum especially considering my low number of posts.

Anyways I just thought that I'd voice my concerns for the next chapter since I think it could turn into a bad episode of Sabrina quicker than Poe could say "Oh snap" and anything along those lines would be an insult to his skill and ability as a story teller. What do you guys think will happen this chapter?

Surprised no one has said anything about my avatar yet =D. cookie for first person to say where it's from!

I seriously doubt we'd see anything resembling Sabrina - although since I've never seen it, I wouldn't know. But I doubt Poe would run anything that's cliche. And besides, the story hasn't built up to any kind of "spell must be cast at the last minute" so it wouldn't even make since if it did. Shit's not going to fly yet. We still haven't met the guy with the gun, and the elf and Meiji haven't met, so I figure the next chapters going to be mostly introduction. Or just laying out where the story's final destination might be. I don't think we have any idea of what the real plot of the story's going to be yet.

I thought that was a friendly initiation personally.
I mean, I didn't even let the guy get sodomised by the entire team behind the english dub of Dragonball Z.

Actor.

Man, you people really go all out. Hell, where I come from you guys would be considered powergaming, the fact you kill them. Though fights would go no where, and always never ended anyways. I want to protect the good n00bs, and kill the dumb ones. You shouldn't kill the smart ones, they'll make good members of my underground crack force set to destroy the world. *evil crackle.*

See, but the good n00bs take the initiation lightheartedly. They have a good sense of humor, and the inis are just a way of screening. My initiation makes me laugh everytime I see it. If someone gets their feelings hurt by an initiation, they shouldn't be here anyways, and it will have served its purpose.

Alright, I guess, but if they are good, make sure to save some dna, I'll need several clones. They make good lower ranking soldiers.

But If someone really does "invite" me, I'll play along, and probably follow you home killing you in your sleep. In a pretendingly fun happy way. *goes to read more comics, and wonders if Shadowland was involed with crack in it's creation.*

Not really. The only other challenger was a cos-player, who I soundly defeated in a quip war.

n00bs get no fair fights. It's initiation, not a rp session. I myself was initiated in a sad and painful way. (When reading, keep in mind I was going by Wyldcard at the time.)

Except the almighty 'they', of the n00bs who tastefully kept quiet, most here get initiated. Take a look at many user's early posts. You'll get the idea.

Take a look at the Lord of the n00bs thread... Which is, incidentally, where I was initiated. Considering the average forum goer, I just find it incredible that Slaanesh didn't sodomize me.
Now, when being given the round of the Realms of Chaos is a friendly welcome...

Edit: Oh, and Shadowwalker, may I suggest the Roleplaying forum, for instance the Arena thread? I would say that's the place to go for battles. Like H-Kat said, initiations aren't rp, it's just painful and probably sexually degrading. Which reminds me, H-Kat, that was some initiation Rand gave you... Ouch. And ewww...

Edited edit: Gah, weird spelling.

I dont see any point in initiations most of the time.

Anyone who can come up with a good, solid reason for why they're not pointless, do tell me.

People do alot of pointless things.Initiations just happen to be a fun thing that people like to do or when somebody makes a stupid n00b comment helps get rid of the anger caused by it.

In short if you do not care for initations then fine. You don't need to do them. But some other people feel like doing them.So you can just go shut the fuck up yourself.
