The next big weapon will be Mecha, big giant Mecha.

Its the path which anime shows us will lead to a really cool future.

Also I want a giant robot with which to crush things.

Actor.

Well, there are so many options to consider. You can't hit what you can't see, right? A handgun is no match for artillery...

The next level of weapons ought to be able to transcend range; aka, indirect firepower on a personal level. No more need for line of sight. The attacker can engage from any possible angle, under any conditions. Once you transcend distance... All you have left is power...

so wha does everyone think the next superior weapon will be? we first had the sword, then the gun... I'll put my money on telekinitic gloves that bend the force to your will

take that Jedi Master!

Yeah, I hate it when people say that Swords are more effective than guns are just being silly... who has seen that Indiana Jones movie? That guy starts arsing around with the sword, and Jones just shoots him! Classic!

Yeah, but that scene was only shot like that because Harrison Ford was sick from eating and drinking the local cuisine that day...

6 shooter pistols vs swords is a different matter, swords dont run out of ammo.

Dumbass with guns vs highly trained assassin. Hmm, who wins. I think the one that can shoot a giant magic ball at her enemies will come up on top.

Ok people I am sorry if my grammar is a bit crap as already stated. Also the best FF game is in no way 8 sure probably the simplest and one of the most complex systems around but 6 and 4 smashed the shit outta it. Also if anyone thinks I take fold seriously don't worry. In reality he's probably just a little kid who thinks he's tough because he can rebel online, Fold just one thing to do try the real thing about rebellion in life or try suicide that'll put your pathetic life in perspective. Trust me I've tried before it isn't nice. Also I'd like to say wtf is the point of other people getting involved I can handle my own situation just fine but thanks anyway.
On the subject of the thread I'd like to say that any one who has a sword against someone with a gun would probably end up in a mortuary first with one between the eyes.

Edit: the one typo I made

I just feel the need to play Devil's Advocate  here by saying this:

This is, to blatantly mutilate Krylex's words, a case of a bunch of nameless, low-paid dumbasses vs. a highly trained assassin chick. Those dumbasses would be just as dead if they were armed with swords, daggers, or Viagra-enhanced rubber dildos. Likewise, they'd be just as dead if Sara was shooting them with a gun (or two guns, since she is a ninja chick, after all), regardless of how the flunkies are armed.

Having said that, I leave you to your debate :-)

I prefer a boken to a pistol.

A friend of mine was going to show me how you could use Aikido against a man with a gun. He told me to point my pistol at him (an unloaded air pistol) and I did, then he got pissed off when I did so from 4 feet away and backed up and "shot" him with the air discharge when he moved.

In the case of the comic, the element of surprise is one of the most devastating weapons you can have. It more than makes up for the differences between weapons.

When I mentioned Flails, I was reffering of course to the single flail. And of course to the large metal spiked ball. Just essentially a Morning Star on a chain, really, nothing more complex than that.

And yes, training does mean a lot. But that's circumstantial. Say two equally trained masters of their respective weapons go up to eachother, and try to kill one another. Whoever has the weapon that's better off in the fight will likely win, unless the opponent can make circumstances go in his favor.

It all depends on circumstance, so it's easiest to simpyl compare what weapon works better against other weapons. And yes, someone using their bare hands, possibly with a nice set of tough leather gloves, may be able to beat a Flailman, if they cna get it byt he chain or so. They'd have a broken hand, or some other pianful injury, but then they could take the weapon and beat the opponent senseless with it.

I know that foam sport means nothing to real life (heck, or order of worry is Saftey, Playability, then realism) but here is what I know of the medieval FOAM weapon standard:

Sword and Board or Flail and Board are most useful. Flail is skill on a stick, sword and board takes some training but forces a person to excel more. all other weapons in single are funny, save dual swords, which can stand a chance (well, or dual flails, but then again, they are usually all but massless in that case)

In line fights, a sheild wall to just look pretty with spears and archers behind kicks ass.

Like in Lord of the Rings when they shot a rain of arrows OVER the goddamn wall and into the orcs. English longbow tactics: Get a line of archers. Aim at the sky in your enemies general direction. Release. Repeat until they stop moving.

Don't forget: If line breaks, retreat and try again. Or is it Draw sword and charge?

Someone else here does the PVC swordfighting thing? Strange.

I like spears, too.
