Whoever guessed that the healer would come help with the fighting if the situation got bad enough was apparently right.
I wonder how a trained healer can stand to fight? Wouldn't it be counter-intuitive for him? I mean, if my whole being went into saving lives (which, judging from what I know of decent healers, it would), wouldn't it fuck me up pretty badly to try to take one?
Just a thought. On the other hand... I'm an amateur healer and a pacifist, so maybe it would make more sense to someone who hadn't spent her whole life trying to not hurt people and to heal where she can... or maybe not.

There are many times when you can save the most lives by taking a few.
For instance, if you could have killed, say, hitler when he was a child, and assuming that his being dead would have prevented the whole string of persecutions (which i'm not 100% sure it would) would you be able to do it, to kill that innocent child? Even if your whole life was devoted to saving lives, would you be able to do that? How about if you were't SURE that killing him would stop it, but you thought there was a good chance?
I'm kinda ripping off SoT series here, but they make some good points, if you allow evil to run rampant, you do not actively fight it if you can, then you are agreeing to it. If you believe that any person has the right to take your life, and that you in defending it would be a bad person or immoral, then you are aknowledging that your life has no value, and that theirs has more than yours, which is in essence defying the whole basis of the morals which you would be trying to protect (that everyone has an equal right to live, and therefor impinging on that right is wrong).
When someone murders, in cold blood, without moral reason or intent, they forfeit their right to live.
Um... that got off topic, just go read the sword of truth series, especially the last one :p
