Damn, you beat me by abvout 30 seconds. ^^

Winning the fight is a good thing, but if Sarine burns his face beyond recognition of being an elf, some of the villagers might think that she just killed the poor and abused Melrin...

So much for Sarine setting off a charge in Melrin's guts...

Kinda ironic. Now he has a reason for all those bandages.

I want to know more about him! I want to know why he hides as a human, why he attacks Sarine, and all those relatively unanswered questions!

And why didn't he just use a cozy hat instead of those bandages? Should attract less attention, methinks.

Hmm... questioning the de-faced assassin. It would make an interesting interrogation scene.

"Why did you attack me?"
"Aw fuh hwa hfa ee ffifh"
"What is hidden here?"
"Fwih uh *cough* hah oo. fuh.. ih... *death rattle*"
"Intriguing."

Me, I hope he's not dead just wounded enough that he won't be moving around in the future.

Because he's cool.

Actor.

That's what I thought as well.

I don't think Sarine's killed Melrin, though. She'll want to know who he actually is and why he's trying to kill her, so she's probably just trying to incapacitate him. Blinding him is a rather efficient way of doing that.

It might even be deliberate. Pretty scary, dealing with someone who can do irony in the middle of a life or death struggle.

Try Zabuza for size. He lived with coolness, he killed with coolness and he died with coolness, by a cool charachter.

Now for the topic: what are the odds that Sarine is casting a paralayzing/mind numbing/psycho hurting spell in order to stop the fight with the guy in ~1 (plus/minus 0.5) piece.

Is it just me, or does she look a little insane in that one panel?

I doubt she's planning on doing much interrogation as she landed with a forearm bar on his neck.

Of course Affi could be right and it could be some healing spell.

Yep, and that's just one small piece of what makes Poe's work so awesome. He's very, very good at making you curious. Or at least at making me curious.

Me, I think Melrin's pretty dead. That looked a lot like the spell she used earlier, but apparently using his face as the base for it, not the ground. Given what it did to the ground, and how it affected him at range, I can't imagine there's a whole lot left to his head.

Added to that, Sarine isn't stupid... Given how much damage that sword can do, it could be very fatal to not just kill him outright. If he could still move his sword arm with reasonable speed, it wouldn't matter whether or not he could see you; just slashing around randomly, he might still get you pretty good.

Hmmm, does this mean that Sarine is now the proud owner of a Lancea blade? Or will Jon get it, perhaps, since they seem to make elves a little unstable?

Ouch. That's going to leave a mark....

Most likely a splatter shaped mark on the floor....

If he's not dead, he's the next best thing to it. And I think the look of horror on Melrin's face in the second to last panel is because he knows exactly what she intends to do to his face.

Look at her expression as she pins him to the ground. This is for keeps.

She has one piece of information from him anyway: This is a place worth posting a guard. With a lancea blade. For centuries.

So we have even more proof that you don't mess with sexy elves that have been wandering assassins for at least several hundred years. It's bad for your health, even if you have a neat magic blade thingy. As for Melrin's sword, it's only fair that she gets it since he shattered (or sliced straight though) one of her blades.

So much for talking it out over a nice cup of tea. I guess it's better to do away with someone so malicious than to bother reasoning with them.
