My guess is that the gewehr would be better considered as hitmen/goonsquad rather than as fullblown assassins, same goes for the ensigerum. They very much remind me of stereotypical mafia groups. I can definitely imagine the gewehr driving around the city with tommy guns...

Jon's gonna get out of this just fine and with his sister. Then they'll both be on the run from the Ensigrum.

Reminds me of that Bruce Willis movie the Jackel, where the guy touches the van door and starts convulsing then swallows his own tongue. Imagine being found like that in the shitter.

Seems that way. Since Jon is already suspicious of this mission, he should really be taking the extras into account as maybe temple mages instead of assuming they are helpless.

I wouldn't bet against it. It is the most obvious way of staying in sight of the sacrifici . . . er, the victim.

He paid a mage to do it? He has to do something with all the money he gets besides prostitutes and it's not as if it's going into his wardrobe or alternative skills.

He's not really assuming that they're helpless- he does note that they might know healing magic. Because, y'know, the clergy are the only ones who are supposed to know any magic at all, so the odds of these knowing some is pretty good. Of course, they could open up with the fireballs immediately afterwards, but... there's not much he can really do about that at this point anyway.

You also got to remember that Jon doesn't think very highly of magic to begin with.

Is it just me or does anyone else have a small part of them that hopes Jon doesn't make it out alive. I like Jon as a character, but death is always a good thing in fiction...

Jon kills priest dude, then shoots all the others before making a daring escape. Or, Jon kills priest dude then trys to escape and is killed by one of the others or someone else. Or, Jon kills priest dude, one of the guys trys to kill him and just before the final blow is struck Ellis jumps\flies in front of the blow, not intending to save jon, just showing off his mad escape skills, this distracts the attacker for the critical 1\86th of a second jon needs to fire off a fatal shot at point blank range providing a nice bloodsplatter. Ellis is of course fine being immortal and pretty much indestructable, oh and then Jon and Ellis escape in a sneaky fashion.....

It would bring attention to his position that's why.

Also if the F'n time ninjas are under the cloaks he is so fucked that he won't even feel it. He'll shoot, one ninja will save the priest and the other will incapacitate Jon.

Then the drama follows.
