Or it gave one of them a shot at necrophilia.

Either way.

Hmmm?

Is that what you mean? Seems more like a plot dump than a McGuffin to me. Possibly next up will be a reversal or maybe a deathtrap... >.>

Hmmm . . . probably going to be a gloat. That wouldn't save Jon alone, since Ferrel can dodge a bullet, but Sarine's magic is another matter. Even cooler if our heroes can stop bitchin' at each other long enough to combine a distraction and a fast draw.

A rare artwork quibble: notice the way the bench fits under the desk. There are about two inches of room there, scarcely enough for even a severely withered set of thighs to fit, let along gams of steel like Anita's.

Otherwise, really nice bit of Greek-chorus work. We're now equipped with a reason why the imminent combat won't turn out the way it looks like it should. The only question is exactly how Warrel's lack of focus, obedience and discipline will rise up and bite him. I can't wait.

Incidentally, is anyone else feeling growing horror at the notion of working for a badass like Anita? Paul is becoming a downright sympathetic character here.

That's because her seat isn't flat, but has space carved out for her butt and thighs. *cough* ...or else not

For all we know, she has a potty chair built into that bench. Wouldn't be the first time in the wacky world of megalomaniacal rulers.

We've got an example to play off of. The Monk that blew the Connel assasination was pretty much mentally overwhelmed. Too many things in happenning all at once, too many things in the air all at once. That's what lack of focus gets you. He sees the sniper, and lets drop from his mind that Anne had entered the room in such a way she hasn't been cleared as not being a threat. He sees Anne shoot, leaves the sniper and races to get the bullet. He starts monologing to Anne, the sniper he'd knocked out slipping his mind. Then he gets shot.

Warrel's removed Sara from the equation for the moment, that means he'll have to juggle both Jon and Sarine with the constraint of having to keep Jon alive so Sara can execute him later. If he's as much of a flake as we're intended to believe, prognosis not so good for the Ensigerum.

Wonder how Anita will handle that? I'm going with 'badly', with hints of organized violence on a nation-state level before this is over. She's gonna blame the Elves for Sarine, and interpret the massive upsurge in Elven activity as directed at countering her secret plan to dominate the world, which also would mean to her that she's got a leak at the confidant level... Paul being suspiciously diplomatic and accomidating to even documented inferiors... so long, Paul. It'd pretty much get worse from there.

Warrel's lack of focus could cause him to accidentally kill Jon, thus buttF(&^ing all our ideas about "Superfight: Sara Amraphel V.S. Jon Amraphel" if Warrel does manage to kill Jon I'd be willing to bet that he would not have time to even worry about his mistake as sarine would be right there with a nasty throat slash. After that if and when Sara Returned to the room who knows what could happen, Upon seeing her master slain beside the body of her brother she might just go completely apeshit and try to take on sarine who would (I'm betting) beat the shit out of her and make her listen to what happened. then Sara and Sarine would be off to find Meji and Ian using ellis as a sort of magical GPS locator thingie...

*Crackhead theory over*

Anywho, I like the nervous look that the silhouette has in the first frame, I didnt know that a silhouette could look nervous, but now I do!

Your art skills never fail to impress me Mr. Poe... Keep up the good work!

Maybe Warrel is emotionally attached to Sara - enough to allow the mission to fail. Sara's still his apprentice, so the responsibility (and punishment) for failure is still his alone. For bonus points, he leaks Sara's last name & the location of the village.

Yan's theory by Gambit3le was quite nice...
Did anyone think that
It might be what should happen? Or
Again is this is only crazy thinking?

But it isn't if you read all first words of each line I typed, except thi one.

First off, I don't think Warrel is her 'Master', just the senior partner.

Next, Warrel isn't going to get the chance to kill Jon be cause Sarine is >|< right there with her own Durus Flammae out and swinging. She might also be pissed off that humans even have these things. Say 'Good Night' Warrel.

How would a fight between two people using time magic look? Would it be a race to see who could see one step ahead first, and look to the outside world as if it's just one strike?

Check out Zelazney's Creatures of Light and Darkness for a description of time fugue combats.

Who says Warrel will be able to focus enough to work his time magic, once he's charged by Sarine with a Durus Flamma in one hand and a furious, ballgagged, winged cat in the other? He'll bring his Durus Flamma spear up in a reflex action, which frees Ellis from bonds and ballgag. Then, all hell breaks loose 8)

Nah, he can't be that hungry. He'll shout dirty things that will make Warrel blush and put his hands over his ears. Then Ellis scratches his face, while Sarine puts a sword through his belly. Finally, Jon tries to shoot Ellis to shut him up, but misses and hits Warrel's face instead. Then Sara re-enters the room, but since her mission is to kill Jon only after Warrel brings him to her all bound up, she'll never do it.

Is it wrong of me to have read this update and immediately think of Qui-Gon Jinn?

Something about the tenses of the sentence bother me. And I thought of Jinn because disobedient master reference.
