Otherwise, really nice bit of Greek-chorus work. We're now equipped with a reason why the imminent combat won't turn out the way it looks like it should. The only question is exactly how Warrel's lack of focus, obedience and discipline will rise up and bite him. I can't wait.
Incidentally, is anyone else feeling growing horror at the notion of working for a badass like Anita? Paul is becoming a downright sympathetic character here.
We've got an example to play off of. The Monk that blew the Connel assasination was pretty much mentally overwhelmed. Too many things in happenning all at once, too many things in the air all at once. That's what lack of focus gets you. He sees the sniper, and lets drop from his mind that Anne had entered the room in such a way she hasn't been cleared as not being a threat. He sees Anne shoot, leaves the sniper and races to get the bullet. He starts monologing to Anne, the sniper he'd knocked out slipping his mind. Then he gets shot.
Warrel's removed Sara from the equation for the moment, that means he'll have to juggle both Jon and Sarine with the constraint of having to keep Jon alive so Sara can execute him later. If he's as much of a flake as we're intended to believe, prognosis not so good for the Ensigerum.
Wonder how Anita will handle that? I'm going with 'badly', with hints of organized violence on a nation-state level before this is over. She's gonna blame the Elves for Sarine, and interpret the massive upsurge in Elven activity as directed at countering her secret plan to dominate the world, which also would mean to her that she's got a leak at the confidant level... Paul being suspiciously diplomatic and accomidating to even documented inferiors... so long, Paul. It'd pretty much get worse from there.
