Maybe Warrel's dropping out of warp speed to capture Jon (since he's not trying to kill him, just bring him in for Sara to finish, and a warp-speed grapple could hurt a lot), and then pausing for a "wtf" moment as Jon tries to run from someone it's (pretty obviously) futile to run from.

Still... of all the things to do in such a situation, running does seem like the best choice. Neither it nor fighting seem very likely to succeed, but at least running away, your opponent *might* for some reason let you go. Fighting... he's pretty much got to fight back, whether he wanted to or not.

And cue Sarine dropping in from the rafters in 3... 2... 1...

Yeah, that's what I figured too. However, running only gives them the choice of which side they can barbeque.

He can't. But putting the barrel of his pistol in his mouth and pulling the trigger would be messy, and falling to his knees and whining like a baby would be tacky. As Jon pointed out, nothing he can do is going to be anything but futile. If he moves, he has some miniscule chance of Warrel making a mistake.

Jon used up his quota of stupid by wasting time speaking words to Sarine instead of just taking off.

Also he's a little freaked out right now. Give him some credit for being human.

It's funny, I recall a very similar plot in "Rune Soldier", always with style.

Interesting that he is running towards the end of the walkway. That's a nasty fall.

Also, "Into futility, kicking and screaming, go I" is the best line ever.

well, at least he'll die with his boots on. Going out in a blaze of glory is such a cliche'... nevertheless, thats how I want to die. I salute you Jon Amraphel, may you die well...

I really loathed that priestess and her "It's all against my will!" line.

Just sell the time-ninja's soul to the devil.
Thats what any real adventurer would do. Harumph.

Run Snarky! Run!

Either he's planning on making the jump or taking his chances on the floor, or just getting the hell away from the guy than can swat or dodge bullets as the mood takes him.

What he's actually done of course is totally engross Warrel. And that is what will save his life, if anything does.

Hah! He doesn't have to outrun the bear, he just has to outrun . . . no, I guess he does have to outrun the bear. Sucks to be him.

Right, putting Warrel squarely in front of an annoyed invisible elf would do Jon some good. If Sarine's still around, and Jon doesn't seem to think she is. I do, myself.

Alternatively, he might have some fancy Batman-style move planned involving the rafters and an escape rope. I say "might," of course, because Jon hasn't yet done any thinking at that sophisticated a level
so far in this operation.

If Warrel tries to subdue Jon himself instead of cold-cocking him while time fugued, then Jon's got a chance. He does have martial arts skills. Head butt, rabbit punch to the nose, any quick move that can stun Warrel and give Jon the initiative.

No can do.
Cats ballgagged, duct-taped, and penetrated by something that has knobs and vibrates.

I always got in trouble for doing things to my party members when role-playing.

Sacrificing them to gain favor with the dark gods, even in games where there were no dark gods.

Pimping them out when their player wasn't around.

Lighting them on fire and shoving them towards the enemy as 'improvised weapons'.

And yes, once I tried to sell the villain's soul to the devil, but he'd already done that himself, so I was reduced to using apocalyptic spells on a regular basis until the villain (and most of the continent) was destroyed.

on a positive note, Jon is still concious enough to have kept his weapons, maybe he can run and shoot under his arm, thus surprizing the time ninja and making him trip for long enough for him (Jon) to get away, or at least allowing sarine the opening she needs to get the drop on him(time ninja dude.) that'd be fun, and a whole lot less depressing. though, when I think about the chapter opening page for some reason I tend to think that Sarine, Jon and Warrel are about to die.... just my take, don't despair... yet.

One day Jon might have to fight a chronomonk who ISN'T completely arrogant and totally secure in his or her own omnipotence... but hopefully, that's not today.
