Funny, but that flashback didn't show what Sarine did to the victor.

Uhm, they were? I was under the impression that Sarine fought with the Elves, not the Errants. (Why else would she still have security clearance?)

Because there weren't enough elves around to be picky about who was cleared for access to some things?

And I'm surprised that nobody commented that Warrel was speaking in the Elven tongue. I don't think that is something that they teach the novices, unless that is a common insult that the Ensigerum teach their senior members.

But yes, Sarine seems to be cockier than usual. We haven't seen her this relaxed before combat since the elven army squad tried to kill Ian way back when. I assume that she was probably one of the elves who taught the Ensigerum everything they know, and therefore knows all their weaknesses. Or perhaps it's just arrogant elven superiority.

Hmmm, Sarine casting a "Dispel Magic" field around the combat area might give Jon a fighting chance to win his own battle. I believe that Warrel is not nearly the fighter Jon is without his magic.

I suspect that the only one the equal of Jon in non-magical combat is Sarine. Sara is a trainee and Warrel is just plain too sloppy, according to Anita. However, I think that we're gonna see Sarine raise to a whole new level of whup-ass.

She always does that before a really major fight and where she doesn't have the element of surprise. It encourages her foes to underestimate her.

Warrel is soo toasted, or soon will be!

Especially considering that Sarine TRAINED his ancient predecessors.

Unless the Humans came up with some new tricks on their own.

I'll bet it comes down to Warrel asking for help and Sara, acting the good monk part, will say something to the effect of
"It was my job to kill him once you subdued him" (told here)
Oops, cue death scene and realization of stupidity.

I'd have to agree Sarine sounds pretty comfortable facing them though. Would it be nearly as hard to take out these two as the elf she fought before entering that forest?

I'm betting Jon still plays a part in this battle. Like, say, back-shooting Warrel in the middle of his epic battle against Sarine.

You know, after seeing Sarine go all matrix jump to get to ground level, I gotta ask something thats bugging me...

Just how much stronger are elves, when comparied to men? I mean, Sarine has held down Johns arm (http://www.errantstory.com/archive.php?date=2004-04-28), when somehow I doubt Sarine is built bigger then him. Not to mention how fast she has to be to get his gun from pointed right at her to table level before John pulls the trigger.

Then we have "Bloddy Elf Eyesight" (http://www.errantstory.com/archive.php?date=2005-04-20) pretty much spelling out that elves have better eyesight then your average sniper.

Not to mention the various mentionings of "Elves? Oh fuck!" making it seem they are alot stronger then we have seen them, making me think that a Elf NPC is alot more kickass then a Human NPC.

Anything else I missed?

This can arguably pertain to any scene where Sarine is fighting or in motion. Whenever she jumps up or down, she does so with less effort than a human. In one panel, she springs lightly down a 10' drop while Jon carefully climbs down beside her. In her fight with Melrin, Sarine is flat on her back in one panel. She then puts her one good hand into Melrin's chest and stands up, lifting all 250 lbs of him, rocking forward and slamming him into the ground. Try doing that at your next highschool wrestling tryout.

Sara's super-strength comes from channeling magical energy through her limbs. Among elves, I'd suppose it's common knowledge how to do so, since they channel magical energy through thier swords.

Human martial artists and monks and crazy fucks learn to do all sorts of freaky shit... in only a few decades of life. Tell their wounds to simply not bleed, put their fists through two brick walls and Christopher Walken, whatever. Now picture one of these crazy fucks who do nothing in their life but train born as an ubermensch with a whole world of reality-bending power at their disposal and thousands of years in perfect health to figure out how to use all of this crap to its fullest.

What we have to ask ourselves is why the elves aren't stronger.

Another possibility is they get their across-the-board top-notch physical and mental status from being a genetically engineered servitor race. About as good as monkeys get, while still being monkeys.

I think Labrat has it right and we haven't seen anywhere near all of Sarine's capabilities. Even among Elves, she's awesome.

She's spent the entire time, since her husband was killed, improving her Elvin martial arts. That's over 3,000 years of constant training, a fair amount of real combat, including some elf-on-elf stuff, and hunting real errants while helping innocent half-elves.

Warrel is soooo going to get munched :) :D
