Anyway... this is a very interesting development. The Ensigerum are not only an ancient order, but they're also an ancient order of Elven-speaking elf-haters. And now... fight scene! :D

Also, it was a pleasant surprise to get a comic today at all. I wasn't expecting one until next week.

Wow, the Ensigerum are REALLY old skool.

What are the odds that there village that they protect at all costs is sitting on top of some cool elf shit, like say, a sleeping god?

It's late and I'm tired so I don't recall, but... has anyone yet postulated that the Ensigerum were originally some of those humans that the late Elven Special Forces (i.e. Sarine et al) spent all their time training to fight duels for people?

Many times, yes.

Now we know what side of the Elf wars the Ensigerum were on*.

1 One side: Radical Humanists against interbreeding with Elves (*this one)
2 Another: Radical Elvists against interbreeding with Humans

The above two groups may not necessarily have liked each other much but may have worked together for a common goal.

3 Yet another: Humans, Elves, and Half-elves. A melange of defenders.

Much of the Elvin city belongs to group 2 but they are also mixed with the Elves from group 3. Sarine is clearly from group 3 while Meji's father hails from group 2.

Clearly, the war hadn't ended, just petered out and ready to re-ignite at any time.

The real question; Who is the 'they' that Sarine mentions that fed her the 'just some group of thugs who borrowed the name from some old legend'? That sounds too much like group 2 hiding the existance of group 1 from the Elvin Council.

All we need now is Meji and Ian, tracking down Meji's pussy, showing up at this little party.

Oh and this means that Warrel and Sara will immediately try to kill any half-elves they meet.

Warrel is about to die.

My own feeling is that the Ensigerum were on the side of the Elves. The main reason for that is that if they had been on the side of the Errants, they would have gone off with the Errants at the end of the war. If they had been serving the Elves, then they would pretty much have been abandoned and free to go their own way once the war was over, and so they ended up in that remote village which eventually became part of Veracia.

I wouldn't assume their original affiliation has anything to do with their motivation at present, since they've been on their own for an extremely long time by human standards. There were probably similarly trained humans fighting for both sides during the war, the Ensigerum might just be the gathered remnants.

I don't think so. They are entirely too organized. But the Ensigerum wasn't all of the Special Forces either. I suspect that there were two, at least. Sarine's husband was fighting on the side of the Errants, as she was. The one that killed him was probably Ensigerum.

Funny, but that flashback didn't show what Sarine did to the victor.

Uhm, they were? I was under the impression that Sarine fought with the Elves, not the Errants. (Why else would she still have security clearance?)

Sarine's dialog in the last panel (So much for the "~" line they fed us) implies that the Elves (or at least the Elven rangers) already knew about the existence of the current Ensigerum, but were given a bullshit explanation by the Veracian Church.

I don't know the healing spells in Errant Story don't seem to be instant, but require the hand to be in place as the spell accelerates healing. So if there is a fight Warrel will probably still have an injury just not a major one.

I seem to recall that as the number of half-elves grew, humans were slowly left to their own and elves spent most of their time with halfelf offspring.

Humans trained and later abandoned by elves would be pissed off at both the half-elves (envy and rage at being replaced) as well as the elves (who abandoned them for all those loonies).

The question is- How much does Sarine charge?

There were humans fighting on both sides during the war.

The whole big, unified order didn't come about until after the war, when the surviving Ensigerum had to band together for survival.

Hell, before the war one of their primary purposes besides being guards/disposable military/handy breeding stock for elf females who happened to want a half elf kid, were as gladiators fighting each other so the human they were serving wouldn’t have to go to the trouble of arranging an official duel themselves.



I could have sworn I put in a panel of her slicing the guy in half in the long exposistion flashback.

Last panel here shows what she did to that Bald Guy who killed her Human Lover Who Hasn't Been Mentioned By Name Yet.

It's just the Bald Guy's shrit hasn't been shaded in black like it is in other flash blacks, probably because it would obscure details. But his outfit does look kinda like an early form of Ensigerum attire, what with the sash and that bit below the collar that fastens on the right.

So seeing that and given Warrel's comment, I'd say the Ensigerum fought against the Elves. But then again, the war could have split the Ensigerum as well.

The sides werent Human vs Elves, it was humans and elves vs humans and elves who enjoy fucking eachother.

Which means the flashback is Ensigerum killing Ensigerum who likes to fuck elves
