I'm having trouble telling... where exactly did he strike her? The leg?

Edit: Title date reformatted for consistency.

First blood to Warrel. But this is why he's gonna die. He should have killed her, just like Sarine got sloppy by talking instead of blasting.

Still don't know which way Sara is gonna go though, unless she takes this opportunity to kill Warrel.

Yes, the leg. That's why she fell down.

Nonono, as you can CLEARLY see in the last panel, Warrel cut off her Flippant confidence mask!

Also, good for Sarine to stand there for the half seconed he needed to time-ninja up. Right now John has gotten more kills and near-kills then anyone else in the comic!

He struck her in the thigh. Last I checked, that's not where you hamstring someone.

And it's not a staff, it's a Durus Flamma Lancea.

Uh, are some of us having trouble seeing that bloody cut halfway up Sarine's left thigh in the third panel? Warrel's hacking Sarine up the same way a Pakistani chef hacks up the chicken for the Tandoori.*

That makes the third time these monks have used time magic right in front of Sarine and she still hasn't figured it out. Yer right, Jon's looking really bright by comparison.

--------------

*Hmmm . . . fresh Tandoori chicken, red, crackling hot and peppery, right from the oven on a bed of in onions . . . This commerical brought to you by the Khyber Pass Restaurant, Oak Park, Ill.

Okay...

So time magic IS a new human trick.

You see, this goes back to the 'Humans are better' thingies from before. Where Elves do perfect an art, even martial art, they really don't innovate. They don't take variations, they don't reroute through the power conductors, they don't adjust the forward phase projector. They just get that old, solid art down to a unconscience perfection.

Where Humans, aware of their eventual death, decide to do something special for people to remember them down the line. And one of these Humans said 'hay, we have this time magic over here!'

Go apes go!

I love the look of surprise on her face :D
It's nice to finally see her on the back foot.

This one day seems to set up about two years' worth of plot.

* Some Deus ex Machina intervenes to stop Sarine and Warrel from killing each other. Both go back to their home bases to report.
* Sarine frantically tries to convince the Elven Council that the Ensigerum is more of a threat to them than a half-elf kid who's been divinely possessed. Of course, she fails.
* Warrel draws completely bogus conclusions about which side the elves are now on, and Anita hatches the idea that her territorial ambitions might by served by taking on the now-wimpy (sic) elves. A raid is planned ...
* Full-blown race war erupts, with the half elves sitting on the sidelines until Anilis swoops in and intervenes. And then things really get sticky.
* And what are Jon and Sara doing while all this conflict rages? No idea, but there'll be something... :billnye:

After the last few pages, maybe Warrels ego is large for a good reason.

The question is... is that an "OMG, he knows time-magic!" look, or an "OMG, is he crazy!?!" look.

Warrel may have used lag hax on Sarine to wing clip her and gloat but clearly he hasn't realized she has all her cooldowns.

For some reason, people are still assuming that Warrel is going to die. Sarine's expressions should indicate to most that she's been surprised and in the last panel, she actually looks somewhat scared. Whether this is a new trick or not, I still think that Sarine's best bet is to cast a dispel magic in the general vicinity, even before healing herself to put herself on more even terms with Warrel in the combat speed department.

But I'm also confused - Sarine is not an idiot. She saw Warrel use time magic to move out of the way of Jon's second shot. Why was she not prepared for the attack? ...Could the Sarine that Warrel is attacking be a magical doppelganger or illusion that Sarine is manipulating from the shadows to gain a better understanding of the Ensigerum's combat capabilities?

I just had a thought. Maybe it's a "ZOMG, I knew this guy's father" look, now that she's close enough to see his face. Pure speculation, I know, but as long as lost relatives are being reunited...
