Nah. I'm betting that Jon does the noble thing and shoots Warrel through the head from behind while he's busy gloating. Sara, in the meantime, not wanting to kill her brother AND worried about taking on an elf, gets the heck out of Dodge. She then reports to her superiors that they were ambushed by an elf, Warrel was killed, she barely escaped, etc.

Thus, she is excused for not completing her task, she doesn't have to kill Jon (at least not for the moment), and she does the smart thing and reports back instead of courageously getting killed.

That would sort of take the "Whuff" out of the story line, eh? How does it progress from there?

Sarine: Holy fuck they're time mages.

Jon: Holy fuck that was my sister.

Sarine: So... about coming with me to get Ian and Meji...

Jon: Holy fuck that was my sister.

Sarine: I'll give you a moment to yourself.

She is. Even if she wasn't, realizing of course that staring studiply with shocked expression is a perfectly reasonable response to having your thighbone suddenly bisected.

It doesn't look deep enough to sever the bone. However, she's gonna need a touch of healing.

I am seriously going to laugh myself silly if Warrel and Co. win, mostly because of the fervor Slam's been prophesizing his death with.

But seriously, I think Insane's got the right idea.

Considering the type of blade used (goes through everything, does not get shallower in the middle of the cut), that's definitely through bone.

Trying to go by panel six. Either my perspective is screwy, Sarine's got a double set of knees, or...

Ladies and gentlemen, here comes the Amraphel boy. Kid grew up screwy. Well, you'd say that right up to the point you met the Amraphel girl.

For some reason, people are still assuming that Warrel is going to die. Sarine's expressions should indicate to most that she's been surprised and in the last panel, she actually looks somewhat scared. Whether this is a new trick or not, I still think that Sarine's best bet is to cast a dispel magic in the general vicinity, even before healing herself to put herself on more even terms with Warrel in the combat speed department.

But I'm also confused - Sarine is not an idiot. She saw Warrel use time magic to move out of the way of Jon's second shot. Why was she not prepared for the attack? ...Could the Sarine that Warrel is attacking be a magical doppelganger or illusion that Sarine is manipulating from the shadows to gain a better understanding of the Ensigerum's combat capabilities?

Less assuming he will die, and more hoping. At least on my end. Although if you look purely at his character he does have the cocky annoying attitude that throws you into the "first person of a powerful monastic order to die" category.

I think her first look is more pain than fear. Notice the fleshy sound effect right as she does it. There could be a bit of "I'm an elf, how did he hit me" mixed in there, but fear wouldn't fit her character.

Yeah, I'm surprised she didn't see it coming too. Maybe the Ensigerum is actually well off against elves which would make the fight even better. Especially since I'm sure Sarine can't stand on that leg until she heals (which she won't have a snowballs chance in hell of getting the time).

It would be a damn shame if his last thought was "I always wondered why defeating an elf in single combat was a rare honor. Now I know. Sucks to be me."

I think this is going to end with no one dying, but Sarine will walk away with an intense realization that she is NOT as powerful and not as experienced as she believes.

Jon, however, will walk away thinking, "WTF?" as he seems to be thinking already.

Who knows what will happen to Sara? Maybe she's been brainwashed by the cult, maybe she's still pledged allegiance to family. Who the hell knows?

But Poe hasn't had to commit to Sara's characterization yet, really. And he's mentioned how fluid stuff can be, even within the constraints of a tightly plotted work. So yeah, hopefully.

That's true. But still, as much time as Poe has poured into her character, I don't think she's done for just yet.
