I vote that we all stop moving for a vote of supreme confidence in Sarine, because I find it more likely that Poe will then kill her off.

Also, fucking ouch.

Did he complete a circle* around her just now? Seems she had the follow-up
spell ready, but exactly what happens after missing him with that isn't
completely clear - this is one of those scenes where color might help viewers
in understanding the order of events.

*What it looks like is she casts spell, Warrel moves behind to dodge spell, she slashes at him, he returns to original position, then attacks.

For instance, is that swoosh effect in panel two her sword, or Warrel? Is she
attacking the area behind her - assuming Warrel would dodge the spell - or
did she bring her arm back after casting and swing the blade forward?

One wonders if her spell was meant to kill or merely incapacitate, like Sara's
blinding trick from before. If something like the latter - might be that it did hit
Warrel, but to no effect...

Owie, that had to hurt!

So much for surprise interference from either Jon or Sara.

Oh! OH! Boo! Hisss! Down with Warrel! Sarine, what are you doing!? He's a time-mage, conventional melee fighting doesn't work against him! Jam the time frequencies! Reverse the blade's polarity! Do like Jon and run! Don't just fidget around there, getting your ass kicked!

Hmm. I really should have more faith in my nagging observations.

Conversely, she might as well not have. This scene is getting ugly.

And so the last Elf to meddle in the affairs of man was defeated by our pluck and ingenuity and organized religion reigned triumphant.

The End

I think it happened like this: Sarine tosses out the spell she had ready to blind Warrel (looks like just a bright flash, to me), and Warrel recoils for a split second. Unfortunately, Warrel has lots of ways to split a second, so he recovers well in time to dodge Sarine's incoming strike. Second panel is him dodging the blade and then appearing behind her. The third panel needs no explaination. Fucking <i>ow</i>.

I still think that could be a Sarine magical doppelganger or illusion. We know that Elves are pretty good at that sort of thing and that most humans are susceptible to it. We'll have to wait and see how this plays out, but I think Warrel is going to p0wnz this version of her.

We can't really rule that out just because it didn't happen this comic.

Remember, somewhere out there is still a half-elf with phenomenal cosmic power. Maybe he doesn't have a bone to pick with the Ensigerium yet, but anyone with that level of power eventually will. And it won't matter how high they can jump when he can fly, or how fast they can run if he can throw a fireball big enough.

Regarding today's comic: By the time Sarine figures out a way to counteract this, she's going to be either half-dead or pissed off.

It's not too surprising that he dodged Sarine's attack, Sara used the same tactic here:

Fucking time ninjas.

I can only hope that at some point, Ian (Or Meji if she aquires the power shes looking for) kills them in some drawn out painful manner, like a live dissection, or sodomy with a cheese grater or something...

Dude, he just severed her spine!. Unless he deliberately pulled the cut with the precision of a Mayo Clinic surgeon, she's dead before she hits the floor.

Mind, I wouldn't put it past Warrel to pull that stunt. If he wasn't such a blowhard, this fight would have been over already. In that case, Sarine gets to drool a bit on the floor until someone saves her supremely curvaceous ass.

It looks to me like she cast a spell of some sort and (probably nearly simultaneously) spun clockwise to strike at Warrel, who in turn walked clockwise around behind her and slashed across her back.

Pwnt.

Also: Lot of good that pretty elven trenchcoat-armor seems to be doing her. </sarcasm>

Well I'll say, from the looks of it, Sarine is duly fucked.

hi hi

Little did he know, he was actually attacking a wooden log! (one can only hope) But it seems like just about anything except for brain damage can be healed by magic, so maybe spinal injury isn't so bad.

On another note, was that Warren that slapped Sara on the following page? http://www.errantstory.com/archive.php?date=2003-02-14

I wonder how Sara feels being treated that way for a punctured sleave, when Warren gets himself a punctured abdomen 1v1.

Either way, the suspense is killing me!

Looking again, and considering her bum leg, it appears an earlier comment is right; she spellcasts to her left and attacks (clockwise) to her right. Warrel must have walked around behind her back to the other side (walking in front of her would have put him in her sword's path), noticed her sword about to be where he now was, turned around and walked over behind her again, and attacked.

I'm still not entirely sure what happened in Panel 5 on Monday, though. I mean, yeah, leg hit, but... what exactly are we looking at in that panel? What's that boomerang-shaped thing?

Ouch, I hadn't realised the severed spine thing. I figured Warrel was being careful not to kill her (since he didn't cut all the way through her torso, only a shallow cut through her back), but damn, I didn't realise the spine thing. Sarine is definitly not walking out of this one. Not until she heals herself at least, which will be tough while they're running from the church guards that should be coming soon.

So even if Jon manages to wtfpwn Warrel (who deserves it, with how he's toying with Sarine), Sarine is going to be in pretty bad shape for some time still.

Every time you argue anatomy in a fantasy comic, God vivisects a kitten.

I doubt Sarine is dead just like that, but I'm pretty sure she loses the fight. I don't see any cunning feint coming from her after being effortlessly beaten twice by a wounded Warrel. If this keeps up she'll be sushi pretty soon.
