Hmm? Jon is using both guns at once, you say? How interesting.

<Sara> That fuckwit trained me! ^_^
<Jon> Oh good.

Not surprising. Notice that the sawed off is in his right hand?

Dunno where to post this but, that first part of Jon's lines, in the last panel, don't parse for shit. Basic unintelligble there.

I'd like to see *you* say anything intellig(i)ble when facing two time-ninjas.

Jon is most definitely not having a good day here. In fact, I'd say this ranks within his top ten worst days ever.

Jon knows he probably has to shoot Sara to stop her.
Jon knows that Sara can probably dodge bullets.
Jon knows that the fuckwit=Warrel stupidly created a situation (freefall) where he could not dodge bullets.
Jon hopes that Sara was trained by the same idiots who trained the fuckwit=Warrel so that he has a chance of hitting/stopping her, too.

Simple.

You misunderstood his point, Sin - the sentence he is referring to sounds awkward in English.

I'm not sure there's any way to say that WITHOUT it sounding awkward in English...

It's perfectly inteligeble, but admitebly it doesn't parse well. Still what do you expect from a comic entitled "Grammar is my bitch and I shall fuck her in the ass like a cheap Tijuana crack whore if I so desire."?

As a native speaker of English, and a speaker of 4 other languages, that sentence, although protracted, makes perfect sense. In English.

What you tend to get in comics sometimes is a stream of dialogue that, in real life, would be a split-second's thought blip. I understood it perfectly well, and Jon scores points for thinking on his feet. He's points up tactically on both Sarine and Warrel, thus far.

Now, your discussion question, while I kite out for work: what does Jon think might give him a chance to win this fight? Several possibilities come to mind.

Just say it all at once without trying to put a pause in and it sounds fine.

Yes, but he said "unintelligible", which it is not. It may not "parse" well, but I understood it on the first read-through, and apparently so did others.

In English, a directive (imperative) cannot hold inflection; hence, the use of the perfective aspect cannot be used there (you cannot tell someone to do something that has already been completed). Sure, I can make out what it means, but it's not grammatical (at least in Standard American English). Hence, this line should read "Sara, do me a huge favor and be trained by the same idiots who trained that fuckwit over there."

I think that applies more saliently, however.

I never know what to do with these sorts of posts (sigh)

For one thing, the subject is missing. For another, I know native speakers that can't read their high school diploma, and there is a whole generation that has had their spelling capabilities completely corrupted by 1337 and consequently are unable to even recognise correct spelling when they see it.

Native speakers would have less trouble reading the panel in discussion, as it's broken English. Non-native speakers need more clues. However, just because you are a native speaker doesn't make you a linguistic expert on English.

English is my second language, I've only been speaking it for 42 years :3nod:

I see where you're coming from, and I agree. I won't pretend I'm an expert on english either, but as I said, it makes perfect sense *in english*

If I was a foreign speaker who's trying to translate that, I'd come across a non-sensical pile of crap, for certain :D

Doesn't look like Dubioso has posted yet.. he can shed some light on its.. legibility?

I can't think of a better word..

I think the problem might be Jon isn't trying to say what you think he's trying to say. If Jon's trying to intimate that in order to get himself out of this alive and Sarine out of this with the use of at least one of her limbs Sara has to react to things like Warrel's reacted to things, it's good phrasing. If Jon is requesting something from Sara, it isn't. But he's not.

And Snippy does an unconscious one-up on Snarky, what with calling the "trainer that trained" a series of idiots, and the end product a bunch of fuckwits. 8)

And oh yeah, Jon's cool. A doomed hairy monkey if ever there was one, but any guy that manages to go out with a six-shooter in one hand, a sawed-off in the other, aimed 180 degress from eachother, while making action-hero dialogue worthy irony has achieved gunslinger nirvana.
