...Ok...why am I so turned on by that?

I'm going to hell.

edit: Wait, is that a magic button for raising kitty butts, or a button for raising the butts of magic kittys? The world may never know.

Yes, yes you are.

I've always heard it called "Elevator butt" before... but yeah, it's amusing.

As much as I'd like to see the plot advance, I think cute, one-shot pages like this are necessary from time to time.

It's so accurate, though! All kitties have a magical spot at the point where their spines become their tails... if you scritch there, every last one of them will raise their butt in the air, and most of 'em will also purr. It's vaguely obscene, really.

Also, my family always called it "kittyvating" when the cats did that, as a reference to the elevator-like qualities.

Oh mys... Ellis just got caught with his macho, cynical facade down. He's going to do something really stupid in the next few comics now.

That's too adorable for words. I want a t-shirt with Ellis buttvating ("kittyvating"?)... and I keep typing "vade" instead of "vate" and that just makes me think of Vader for some reason. Kittyvader?

I can verify this as we've had our share of cats in the family, but I wonder if it's the same with wild cats and not restricted to our domesticated felines.

Most folks probably don't survive the testing process of scratching a wild cats back and seeing what happens. I know that farm cats will do the very same thing but they're partially domesticated. I'm not exactly keen on finding a bobcat to test though.

I wouldn't be surprised, the wild cats are just less likely to let you snuggle them. In other news, happy cheetahs are the loudest purring cats and this man has the biggest pet kitty ever http://www.qadesh.com/

Of course, knowing Ellis, he's just as likely to have met their local poisons expert.

Note, we can't see which of them John is actually scowling at...

I suspect that he is looking at Ellis rather than the pedobait.

I have to point out that when I first read the strip that I interpreted "magic kitty butt raising button" as the kitty being magic instead of the button. It took everyone else's comment to get me to notice the latter interpretation. Tho it might be interesting if she was talking about the former, perhaps Ellis does have a button for buttraising there... Presumably to aid the mages who like to get a bit more personal with their antisocial familiar.

Am I the only one wondering what it is exactly that Ellis was being fed? It looked to me at first glance like a rolled up paper note wrapped in food, and my first thought was that Jon was smuggling something through Ellis... but now that that's apparently not the case, I've got to wonder: what is that white oblong thing in the middle of Ellis' snack?

(Oh yeah... hi all. Long time reader, since the early EN days; first time poster. Please be gentle).

I thought it was a chunk of bone, with some meat still stuck on it.

If it isn't wrapped in a fastfood container the average american won't recognize it as food.

Does that by chance also work with women or, for that matter, men?
Unless you have been experementing with Poe as of late, I may have to do some tests of my own. For science!

Edit: Reading back on that, I am not speaking of experementing with or on either you or Poe. As much as I would like to.

Ellis has been dealing with Meji all these years so obviously hes a pedo-pussy.
Itterind is a pedo-pussy for completely different reasons. Probably involving something suitably freudian.

Actually, it works more or less with just about any vertebrate. It usually works best with females, though males often have a toned-down response. Domestic cats are do show the response much more than other animals.

When I learned about it some years ago, I experimented with a few female human friends. I found that they didn't respond noticably to a hand on their mid-back, but pressure just above where the tail would be (if we had tails) usually got a rather "compliant" reaction. My thought was "Hmmm ... interesting ..." I haven't tried it with male humans; if anyone does, let us know how it goes. I'd predict a mild response, but not as strong as in females.

We have a bunch of pet birds, including a male/female cockatiel pair and a female conure, plus another visiting female 'tiel. The three females react strongly to rubbing the base of their tails, and the reaction is similar to what cats do. It's obviously something erotic. Two of them have even gone into a full "come-on" display, turning away, raising their tail feathers, and spreading their wings slightly. I try to explain that sex just won't work with a creature whose penis is as large as their bodies, but they don't understand.

The reaction is pretty well known among animal behavior researchers (and breeders). It's one of a list of behavior patterns that has survived through the long, branching evolutionary process, so it probably developed 200 million years ago or more.

I dunno. I have the same problem with anything smaller than a blue whale and I seem to get by. The trick is having the thing wider at the base than the tip.

Thanks for the research, jc.

Now we can officially claim that ES contains beastiality. Or at least foreplay up to beastiality.
