Nice facial work.

So, his two old . . . friends . . . think Ian's nuts?

No, they don't want to break the bad news to Ian...

This may be the first case of spontaneous human combustion that takes out a city.

Well, comparing the before and after stories, I'd be pretty damn skeptical too. Especially if I had bet he'd be dead on the side of the road.

I think we're gonna see another Malacia. How ironic would it be if Ian did the Rangers' job for them by turning Santuariel into a smoking hole in the ground?

All joking aside that seems pretty likely.

Well, his two old friends come from a village of half elves, a lot of whom have...problems like growing a dick or being bat-shit crazy. They could just think that these two are a little bit touched in the head, being errants and all.

Ian's horoscope for today...

Suddenly you are in the limelight. You didn't want this to happen but being the person you are, you enjoy the experience. Expect dead relatives in your future.

Heh, I second zombie prediction.

I love this strip.

"Heh, want to see me lift up this wagon and fly us all the way to Santuariel?"
"NO!"

Meji's such a brat :)

I dunno, sounds sensible to me. Here she just got him back after a definite over-exertion and he wants to repeat the over-exertion just to prove to his friends that he can over-work and drop anything he wants to.

Unlike Ian, Meji is, after all, a formally schooled mage. This means that she knows, in detail, how exhaustion effects spell casting and she doesn't want to be in the wagon when Ian drops it.

Meji a voice of reason. Who would have thunk it.
Though in truth she has gotten a lot more mature. Congrats to Poe for such smooth character development.

Judging by the way Riley and Leah look in the last panel, there's a very specific reason that a few more hours won't change anything...

Oh, I know Meji's suggestion was sensible, it's just the way she said it. That petulant, enraged NO!! rather then a logical explanation for why that's a shitty plan. Meji rocks my socks.

There are times and a places for logical and reasoned arguments, just not many of them.

I think Meji screaming "NO" would stop people faster than a logical argument. "NO" is only one moment away from a fireball.

Both Riley and Leah both have that "we're doomed" look about them. I can't help but think that things went from bad to worse after Ian left town.

But I wonder whether Ian's powers can bring back the dead with no adverse effects on the target... somehow I doubt that.

People seem to think that Ian sister Evelyn died. And that’s what Riley and Leah are trying to keep from Ian. But here’s some simi unfounded speculation what if the elves attacked Santuariel.

The two of them don't seem to be taking the discussion about sharing the bad news all that seriously. Too much snark in their conversation for discussion something that horribly tragic. It's like they were going to tell him something bad but ridiculous, like the girl he was dating was caught naked with the football team.

I would take it as being extremely out of character for Ian to go all city-destroying and stuff. He just doesn't seem like the type to hurt others to ease his pain.

Him reanimating his sister (and thereby making something go horribly wrong), I can see. I could also see him taking his fight to the elves, perhaps...

I dunno. From what I've seen, a simple blowing up of a city is not very Ian-ish or particuarly Poe-esque. Whatever he does, I'm guessing it'll make us simultaneously say "ooooooh shiiiiiiit..." and grin with glee at what's about to happen.

With what, and why?

The elves have given up on a war against the half-elves. Think about this logic: you're in a war against an opponent that breeds like rats, and you're lucky to get a baby per century. You either wipe them out as fast as possible, or you call off the war. You do NOT give them time. If you wiped them down to a couple thousand, and you're at a couple hundred, then both parties sit down for about 300 years, you'll find that the half elves will be in the hundreds of thousands, and you'll still be at about the same number you were at before. When the elves gave the half elves time, they conceded the battle.
