The bookies have closed on that round and new bets are at 2:1.

:-D

The Bookies have the odds on his sister being dead of her progressive degenerating ailments now at 3:1.

The Bookies have the changed odds on his mother being dead of clinical depression at 10:1.

There is are new odds at 2:1 that his mother, in a fit of depression, mercy-killed his sister and then killed herself*.

* Additional side-bets on his mother leaving an angsty note at 3:1.
* Odds on his mother not killing herself, due to cowardness, at 4:1.

Yep, suicide just took the heavy betting.

Craps hitten the fan everywhere it seems. Loosing a sister sucks, I hope Ian isn't going to go through that too, though it seems that is the case.

I'll place a side-bet on mom not killing herself for $2, and hope I lose.

There's also a chance that the mercy killing failed, and the sister was cut up in the struggle.

Super Ian, AWAY!

Yeesh, I wonder who (or possibly, how large of a geographical area) is gonna get blown up because of this mess.

Dunno, if we are lucky Evelyn dies of semi natural causes.
If we are really lucky, an elf killed her.

Bookies are adding one more side-bet to the books:

Odds that Ian finds and kills his mother without waiting for an explanation are now at 7:1

Well, I'm curious to find out what prompted that specific reaction from Ian, regardless of what the bookies are saying...

It may be we don't get to see that part yet, just Meji and the lovely couple entering a smoking ruin.

You know, this just sets up a seemingly unconnected shoe that's waiting to drop.

It is turning out that one of the pervasive themes of Errant Story is the relationships of the main characters to their respective mothers, and the relationship is generally not very good, to put it mildly. Ian has been aware that his mother is severely depressed, but that depression doesn't explain the reaction that he had here. It is possible to have a more-or-less normal set of feelings for a depressed family member while dealing with, and getting increasingly frustrated by, the depression and what it causes. (BTDT.) Ian's reaction is to something else. There is something about the family dynamic that prompts an otherwise almost ridiculously thoughtful and considerate young <strike>man</strike> half elf to this bitter reaction. I don't think I want to know what it is.

So now the other shoe. Back in Praenubilus Astu, Sarine hinted that her becoming a ranger also had something to do with her mother. Any speculations as to the way in which that relationship is screwed up something awful too?

Hmm, I noticed that too actually. Made me think Ian zoomed off like he did because he still can do something, that is not too late yet to save his sister.

Even if he does, what are the odds on said dead being aware of its former life?

Odds are 47:1 on Ian raising the dead, but the only bookies taking bets on it right now are the shady kind that run away while you watch to find out whether or not you've won.

Like the phenomenal cosmic power that we've seen distorting his judgement in the past?

Pretty low, considering how well that turned out for the last guy who tried it.
