After a discussion between older members of the boards it has been decided to stick some temporary rules/notes/suggestions/etc in here just to let people know what the board is and about other aspects of the forums etc.

Obviously since I don't mod this board or even pretend to this is obviously a post which may be subject to change given the decisions of the actual S*P board mods.

These rules were borrowed from the Errant Story boards with express permission from Impy so may some point be changed to fit in with this board and what people want from it better. But they are a very good set of friendly guidelines which may help you out in the mean time.

Without further ado - stuff

1) Please only post one thread per site update (ie: new comic, new newspost, new page, new quote). There are frequently races to have first post any time such an update occurs, so if it turns out that you lost... please delete the extra thread. Also, for the sake of clarity, try to include the date somewhere in the topic any time you start a thread for a new comic. Since different parts of the world use different date formats, it might be nice to date the threads using the same format used for the comics to avoid any confusion.

2) There are other boards for other discussions. This board is for discussion of Something Positive. Please make sure your posts usually relate, and check the main forum index (there's a link at the top and bottom of every page, so no excuses) to make sure a post shouldn't actually be on some other part of the forum.

3) You might want to check for existing threads before starting a new one.

4) Please do not direct or hotlink images on the S*P site. Randy does not like this and it's rude to steal bandwidth from people. Link to image's page in the archive.

5) If you're new to the board... be careful about what you say and how. VERY careful... the regulars here are not nice just for the hell of it and do not see any reason to cut you slack just because you're new.

6) Kyhm's has forum-wide rules. Read them and follow them.

That is all.

(Don't know if the admins will want to sticky this later or just delete it and replace it with something more tailor made)

(also edited to add request not to hotlink/directlink images on the S*P site)

There seems to be a lot of fan crossover between S*P and Sexy Losers, so I'd guess a lot of them would be into that sort of thing.

as far as I see, all 5 of the mentioned rules are unwritten behavior rules, any decent poster obeys they without any quarrel.

Indeed one would hope so, but none the less, it helps to mention what's expected sometimes in the interest of SANITY.

Oy, can one of the Mods sticky this until you get your own ruleset out?
Or creation of said ruleset shall be coming relatively forthwith?

Here's one, and this is a general webcomic one -

Webcomic authors live on advertising. Well, not all, but some do. Randy is one. So is Michael Poe of Errant Story.

If you are going to link to a page in an archive of a comic, do not link to an image directly. Always, and I mean ALWAYS, link to the page in the archives. Doing anything else is basically leeching bandwidth from the author and driving down their advertising hits, which drives down their revenue, and takes away from us everything we love.

It may sound like a slippery slope, but its true, and my mods and I will enforce this policy.

Just edited my original post to include that. Thanks for the heads up Kry.

Addendum: It'd probably be best to link to the archive even over uploading the image to this forum or to a free host and then including the image inside the post. One of the S*P comics should never appear in this forum, (unless posted by randy for whatever reason). Only links to them.

(This may have been covered by KryKry's post, but I felt that it needed clarifing because the wording was a bit ambiguous.)

Er, could I just clarify something about the policy on linking to comics?

I took this...

randy wrote:

...to mean no hotlinking (as in providing a direct link to an image, such as a .gif/.jpeg file etc), but it is ok to link to the page in the archives where a comic is displayed. However my post in the "I just want to be there for someone I care about" thread was edited because it provided a link to a page in the archives. Are we only allowed to link to the main S*P page or what? :-?

What I put up was quoted directly from something Randy said. But then Randy doesn't mod here. But Krylex, who does said:

Sorry to harp on about this, but I still don't understand why my post was edited.

That would be a question for a mod. Not me. One should be along soon-ish.
