There was a biiiiiiiigggg fuss a couple of years ago around here (I live in Lansing, Michigan), because one of the larger and more prominent churches in the area had done a haunted house, and they hadn't exactly warned people what the content was, per se.

Instead of ghosts and whatnot, they decided to put graphic depictions of incest, rape, abortion, homosexuality and whatnot. People ACTED THIS SHIT OUT. Seriously. In fact, the guy who was the "uncle" on the giving end of the incest "skit" wrote to the newspaper after dozens of people had written in to complain, and said something like "Well, seeing as how I was on the receiving end of this when I was younger, I want to show people just how horrible it can be", or something completely ridiculous and disturbing.

People were BRINGING THEIR CHILDREN to this completely unaware, and their kids left with immense psychological damage. Yet I still think they do it to this day. I don't know exactly since you'll never catch me inside a church if I can help it, but yeah.

When I saw the S*P comic about this, I had no idea that MORE churches even did this sort of thing. I just thought that the one here was in its own twisted little category by itself. Imagine my surprise. :o

Well, this is the site I pulled up in a google search of a baptist church decribing their Hell house.

The description is very twisted and sick. Ugh. Be warned.

The Landover Baptist site is a parody. Snopes article, look about a third of the way down the page.

I used to run into evangelical fundies at the local state fair. And at the local arcade. In Massachusetts, where people are less stupid (by and large) about such things. These guys don't know when to quit.

If I'd ever been tricked into paying to get into one of these places, only to have the zealots pull a bait-and-switch.. First of all I'd have kicked my own ass for allowing myself to be tricked, and then I'd be taking my admission out of someone's hide. It's not Christian to trick people.

Yeah. That's just... Wrong. I don't care if they're doing it to dumb assed adults, but whenever there's kids involved... kids don't need to be exposed to that shit, and as far as I view it, when a church, reguardless of denomination or beliefs or practices, pull that shit and allow children into it, it's no better than the 'heathens' they're trying to save them from.

They need to back off. You wouldn't want someone forcing you to be your friend because they're scared of you, so why would they want to force someone to follow their beliefs because you have managed to scare someone into going to chuch? That's not finding followers, that's finding idiots who haven't managed to ignore your scare tactics.

But that's just my view on the subjects. Thankfully, I've never entered one of these things, and I'll make damned sure I never do...

...Or maybe I'll just beat them to a pulp. Hmm. That sounds good. Anyone got a 2x4? Unfinished and all splintery would be good...

/rambling irritation...

We've got a pretty big one in Tulsa run by "G.U.T.S. Church" (how edgy) every Halloween. I've never been - mainly because I'm always too busy around Halloween, but I'd like to. There's always the "gay room," which has actors pretending to be gay souls burning for their sins and bemoaning how they wish they hadn't chosen to be gay in real life.

I've always wanted to walk into that room and say in my best stereotypical lisp, "Oh, ma gawd! Juth look at thethe curtainthssss! Thith ith hell for homothhhhhs!"

Being an old fart (34), I don't know anything about rave music. Do all the songs have ferret noises in them, or just a particular one? :) I'd like to get a copy of the song and play it for my tube rats.

I don't think he's refering to a specific song... I've heard the type of music he's refering to, possibly because I've maybe been to a rave that I wouldn't like to admit to in a moment of morbid curiousity and found that DOOK DOOK! thing to be fairly humourous. I have *no* idea where the ferrets come into it though. Funny stuff, however!

OMG, the whole curtains thing... My god.. My god! I'd almost pay good money to see someone do that, actually... too funny!

/rambling discordance...

Amongst ferret owners, Dook is the all-purpose noise that ferrets make when they're in a playful mood, and they're doing their little happy warrior dance.

Not that I think he's wrong for ripping them up one side and down the other, mind you. :P

For someone related to Davan, I figured he'd come off a bit more sarcastic.

...but then, anger far surpasses sarcasm and takes on a life of it's own. Frightening!

On the other hand, given his audience, not to mention other experiences with their reaction to his sarcasm earlier in this particular storyline, he may have figured that indirectly bitchslapping them, via sarcasm, would be a waste of breath.

You're probably right. The key to sarcasm being effective is knowing your audience...

...And this one scrapes the bottom of the barrel, so to speak. >_<

I'm also surprised he didn't just walk out and beat the snot out of the kid that took his money and get his ten bucks back...

...As well as extra money for the trauma of going through such a piece-of-shit 'horror' place.

:-o UGH! I guess my last post didn't actually post. I was going to say I accidentally stumbled upon this site googling ferret tidbits. The title "Christian Hell Houses" caught my eye, because I've been in one-oblivious that they had names. Upon reading that Landover filth, I was disgusted. I entered one as a teen with a friend in bible-belt-mississippi and will never set foot in a church on Hallow's eve again. It was not nearly as graphic as that site depicted but there was A LOT of similarity in the '7 scenes'. There was also heaven at the end which was followed by the church asking you to fill out a registration card to join. Incidentally, my First Name just so happened to be "Hell" and Last Name just so happened to be "No!" at the time. Our tour guide was screaming at us throughout the tour and I had to bite my tongue. A friend of mine just married Isaac Hanson of the band, Hanson, and is in Okie now...I'm going to ask her about G.U.T.S. I e-mailed my favorite 'dot.comedian', John Hargrave, @ www.zug.com to tell him about this cult-like christian event. I thought we were pays the days of burning witches and other crazy behaviors..maybe not?? I hope everyone has a safe Halloween--stay away from the Churches!!! P.S. if you have had an experience with a 'hell house' I would love to hear about it. Ciao.

I'd have to agree that this last set of comics was pretty damn satisfying. Uptight, confused Fundies really piss me off.

Its rare that I'm happy to not live in the US. Hearing about the evangelists and their ilk is one of those times.

I don't know if it'll ever come out in the US but there is a documentary called God On My Side that looks really good.
I'm going to go watch it after exams.

Actor.

Oh, thanks for reminding me. I heard about it on the radio at work this week and then completely forgot about it... And it's on at only one cinema in town. :(
