I see three or four ways for this to go.

1. Donna, like nearly every other female in the SP universe, is being unfaithful to Davan. It's not his kid, and she knows it, but he has a job and neither she nor the real father do, so she wants to try and take Davan for all he's worth. This is in keeping with SP's general misanthropy, but Davan seems to smart for it to last very long.

2. Davan moves to Texas for good, to be with his new family, and once everything is settled the comic ends.

2a. As above, but the comic now focuses on Davan's new family as a sarcastic version of "Baby Blues", or on PeeJee's solitary loneliness. Either S*P as we now know it is effectively over.

3. Davan tells the bitch to fuck off, resigns himself to 18 years' worth of child support and moves back to Boston, making him even more broke and irritable.

I have to wonder, though: Davan having sex with Donna seemed like a three- or four-day throw-away storyline. Has this whole thing been in the works for three goddamn years? What one-panel gag is going to come back to haunt the characters three years from now?

Based on her dialog "Wow...that was sex..." I'm guessing that determining paternity isn't gonna be an issue. If only one farmer has ever plowed the field, you can pretty much guarantee that he owns the crop.

Something about her says "I was rejected and ignored by my social group over my crush's suicide, and Davan's the first person to give me sexual attention."

I also have to say that Davan's somewhat misplaced parsing of loyalty both to family and to Scotty make this complicated on several levels.

But I'm also voting "she's not blackmailing him" simply because she'd had too many chances up 'til now. And I bet she knows that his sense of duty will push him to do right by the child without her turning ugly/needy/graby/clingy.

I have to say, what's really weird is she could turn out to be the most well adjusted woman in Davan's entire history. This could actually be really good for him.

OR, the start of the "year of hell"...who knows. That's what keeps me coming back.

It doesn't make sense for her to be blackmailing him, because, as far as I can tell she would have never told him if they hadn't randomly run into each other at the grocery store.

Davan's an asshole, but I think that if he believes it's his, he'll try his best to do what he thinks is right, and that won't be telling Donna to fuck off.

She's a stalker. Yeah, that's it. She's been stalking him, so it wasn't a random meeting in the grocery store.

I'm more wondering what's going to happen when he tells his dad, not to mention PEE JEE... what's going to happen to her, anyways.

I think it is much more likely that she said its his kid to trick him into babysitting for her so she can disappear.

Not that she planned this but she is desperate for a way out, with losing her job and how much of a handful he is, I bet she wants a way out.

As for whether its his kid or not I would say she probably has no idea and we won't know for sure because she will leave before his friends convince him to get a paternity test and he decides that it doesn't matter anymore because someone has to take care of the kid regardless.

So next year will feature Davan as a single parent with all of its joys, particularly how it affects his sex life.

What sex life? Davan doesn't get sex unless Satan is ice skating... Which has been known to happen a few times when he's come up from hell during the holidays to make trouble.

Also, the first panel of this strip suggests, at least to me, that the above wasn't just a one-time deal.

Looks like Davan dodged the bullet, so to speak, this time around.

And, frankly, if the result had been different, I wouldn't have complained, but I do understand not doing it because, in the end, doing it just to spite the person in question is a tad on the petty side.
