I haven't read any of the books after the first one, but that doesn't seem too surprising.
He was pretty much always the "stern-seeming but actually a good guy underneath" character, wasn't he?

Also, this probably isn't a novel observation, but was it ever explained in the books why they didn't just throw anyone applying for the position of "defense against the dark arts" into jail immediately? It would save a lot of time for all concerned from what I understand. I suppose it just became an intentional running joke after a while...
Which quite a few non-kids seem to enjoy, and the last time I checked weren't banned from reading.

Not my cup of tea personally, but I bear the first one no ill will and from what I hear they get better as the series goes on.

And yet they still remain a book suited for children of the ages of 6-12. Not to mention they seem to fall intot he category of 'following the plot of star wars/lord of the rings/whatever J K Rowling feels like because she has more money from the queen and she can't be bothered anymore.

Not to mention they aren't even *good* kids books - if you want a good read about magic, witches and wizards why not try something like 'The Worst Witch' or 'Carbonel' or 'Gobolino the Witches Cat' or anything that isn't written by an awful hack who looks like some sort of badly crafted puppet.

An insanely popular kids book that people of all ages seem to enjoy, and thusly the spoiler-bomb applies.

I loved Gobilino when I was a kid. So much so that I named a pair of kittens Gobilino and Sootica.

And "The Villager sacrifice the policeman" was from the classic horror film "Wicker Man" and has been referenced in many many shows, including a Midsomer Murders ep, and a "League of Gentlemen" ep.

You do realize that personal attacks on the author's looks and financial status aren't usually considered among the finest tools of literary criticism, right?

It's possible that even if you like those better some other people may not (I've never read any of them, for the record).

We can get into the whole universal-applicability-of-opinions-of-quality argument in the morning if you want, but let's be honest, either one of us could probably write the whole thing from both sides ourselves :)

Personally, I enjoy and appreciate that series of books. It is incredibly well written and designed to be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.

Unfortunately a lot of cunt rags see books designed with a variety of ages in mind as childish and amateurish.

I feel that these people have wandered off without their inner child and will die sad and lonely only realizing on their death bed the amount of fun they missed out on by letting society dictate what books their age group can read.

Die in fire,
The Sinister Chris

PS: If I don't reply again after this it means I got distracted... Or that your a whore... Possibly both.

And yet, I don't think I actually called you guys any sort of names or actually made any comment on people who read Harry Potter. Hey, if you want to go right ahead. It could just be that *I* personally was expressing an opinion on J K Rowling and her creation.

Because personally, after being persuaded to read some of the first book by my crazy slash fiction obsessed aunt I found it to be badly written and ripped off from a lot of the books I had read as a child.

But by all means why not name call and asssert that I have left my childhood and imagination behind. Of course this would completely ignore any proof otherwise but hey it's the internet so sweeping generalisations must apply to everyone.

And as an aside I'm pretty sure I *don't* watch Naruto.
