The last tank battle in Cologne Germany on March 6 1945 happened as Corporal Gunner John J Gialluca approached the square of town between two buildings where suddenly by surprise a Panther Mark V hit their Sherman tank...

With full photos and maps this is actually an amazing link.

There's a video as well, which is rather impressive. WW2 video games aren't as completely unrealistic in their presentation as I thought, apparently. Were they using incendiary shells or something? I suppose the continued flames could just be from a ruptured fuel line or something near the cabin.

Also, that must be an extremely sucky way to die.

There's plenty of things in a tank that will burn. Ammunition, fuel, bodies...

All it takes is one decent hit to destroy it and kill the crew.

Back when I played Battletech we had an agreement that my tank would have a -2 adjustment for long range accuracy in exchange for having a very explosive moonshine stil on the outside of it which act like another fuel tank if hit.
And a +2 adjustment if the crew had drunk all the booze inside it.

I loved my Hick family tank crew and their leaders Keanu and Q-Bert Hick.
