Hey all, this is a call for help to anyone who knows a little bit about websites and the like.

An academic group that I'm associated with has delegated me to scope out the possibility of a website for us. They chose me because I know one side of a mouse from the other, despite my protests that just because I browse the internet doesn't mean I can make one.

Anyway, seeing as the Kyhm Collective Intellect is vast and knowledgeable, I figured I might be able to come to you guys for some suggestions.

We need a website that can easily have several different sub-pages, like photo galleries, contact pages and the like. But most importantly, it has to be able to be setup, accessed and modified by someone without any programming or computer knowledge, or access to a special application.

I mocked up this, but it was made in a front end application, and so isn't editable without a copy.

Any ideas? Are there any free PHP templates around that I could use? Or something of the like?

tl;dr? Need to make a website, need advice.

If you code in raw html, then it really only takes minimal training for someone to update or modify the site in minor ways. I mean when I did the archive project, I only had to code the first line, then I just copu and pasted, and added in content.

Then again. Never underestimate the stupidity of others.

(btw, someone here will blow me out of the water, as I really only have a grade 9 education on HTML)

I know absolutely minimal HTML, and the people I'm dealing with can barely use a computer most of the time. Unfortunately, anything involving hard coding will be a definite no. These people are smart, but this is a bit beyond them.

Thanks for a response though.

Postnuke is a phpbased CMS system. With little to no PHP knowledge, or any web-related knowledge, you can install this. Modules are pretty easy to install as well, which means you can set up all your galleries, forums, blogs, etc with ease.

The downside is you need to make sure you always patch in updates for security reasons, and it would be best to have someone who knows what's what onboard to help with problems.

Sweet, that looks really good. I'll look into it!
