I ended up picking up the orange box a few days ago, and I'm a huge fan of what valve did there. Portal, while short, was quite well done. Team Fortress 2 made me remember why I love multiplayer FPS games. It's probably the best $50 I've spent on a video game (Package deal or otherwise) in a very long time- the last game I can think of that I found to be this awesome was Smash Bros. way back when it first came out on the gamecube.

Anyone else pick up The Orange Box? Or play any good games lately?

Yeah, I picked up the OB when it came out on steam, and it is a delicious box of deliciousness. Portal was pretty awesome, but the real staying power of the box is TF2. Seriously it's one of the only mp FPS games where playing a support class like Medic is great fucking fun.

Played and finished Portal in about two hours, was brilliant. I loved the sense of achievement every time you work it out.

I was awake the moment when they made available to unlock your pre-downloaded games. I really enjoyed portal, then proceeded to download the still alive mp3 and play it on loop continuously.

Then I finished Half-Life 2: Episode 2. They still haven't implented the "Propose to Alyx Vance" button and animation yet. She had me at "Zombine".

I'll get around to TF2 when I know I have more time to kill or available bandwidth.

So I asked around if anyone was actually needing a game to play and if they would actually take the time to play through Half-Life 2 and HL2: Ep 1. All my friends seemed wishy washy and probably were too afraid of having a great game experience. How many people who bought the Orange Box actually gave away your copies of HL2 and Ep1?

If anyone gives me a compelling enough reason to give my copies to you, they are yours. Or maybe I'll just give it to someone who is convinced that the Halo franchise has the best single player ever in an attempt to cure them of their ignorance.

My comp can't handle that magnitude of awesome so I settled with trying to rent it but I got denied because the blockbuster account my parents use had their credit card information expire 4 months ago. So now I'm just QQing until I can go to my dad's and play on his comp.

A friend of mine gets nauseous (like car-sickness) from fps-games, so after hearing Still Alive she made me come over and play portal for her, to possibly hear it in-game and understand the level of awesome. I didn't finish the game, but i liked it very much. Even when i got stuck and just played gravity jo-jo for a little while. My comp wouldn't be able to handle it, even if it was mac-compatible (it isn't, is it?). Also, playing wow with touchpad was bad enough.

Still Alive is a bloody brilliant song.

It's Mac compatible as long as you have a dual-boot set up with Windows on it. So, uhh, not really.

The game runs on the same engine (and really, about as well) as Half-Life 2, meaning if you're computers a few years old, it still might be able to play it.

Portal was fucking brilliant. I was a bit concerned that it would take itself too seriously after seeing the first few trailers, but I'm glad it still has the same bizarre sense of humor that Narbacular Drop had. The game was short, but quite enjoyable. Any game that frequently makes you go "... you're expecting me to do WHAT!?" multiple times is fantastic.

Haven't tried HL:Ep2, seeing as I have yet to beat Episode 1. Am looking forward to playing it now though, since I heard there's an achievement that requires you to haul a garden gnome throughout the entire game.

Don't know about Team Fortress 2. Looks interesting, but is it the sort of game that you kinda have to know other people who play it to enjoy?

t Wark Not at all. I don't know anyone on the servers I play on the majority of the time, and that doesn't deter from the fun at all. Because it's not the CS crowd, you actually tend to get people who can balance out other's skills, and actually work as a team, which is great for a random pubbie group. Basically, super fun, you do not need to have friends.

you will make them though!

Also Warkems I shall invite you to play a match on a server on the other side of the planet so you will know someone. We will have lots of fun.

My favorite class to play is probably medic, followed by scout.

As for companion cube, I was considering dressing up as it for Halloween.

The audio commentary in Portal wasn't exactly as much fun as I thought it would be. I was hoping for a few "Comments" by GLADoS about the architects of the Aperture Science Labs leaving so many security holes in the basic building design or searching my Hard Drive for adult material.
That would have been awesome.

Still it was okay, nice to understand some of the level ideas and the thought they put into them.

I'm trying some of the challenger maps in Portal. Nasty bastards.
But I want my achievements, you need to get all the achievements if you want the cake at the end.

And I'll do anything to get cake.

I think the only ones that I haven't finished are the least time ones, cause they're just ridiculous.

(also the detatching cameras from walls one, still can't figure out how to finish that acheivement)

I've finished the game twice now trying to get that achievement. I can't find more than thirty.
