First episode of the Sword of Truth television series airing in five minutes as of this post, at least in my time zone.

First impressions pending.

You mean the "Wizard's First Rule" book?
The book wasn't that good in the first place, I can't imagine how horrible a tv show of it will be.

Can't stand that series.

And television adaptations tend to not work out very well.

I liked the book series up until The Pillars of Creation at which point I stopped reading, and from what I've learned that was good because Goodkind went all Ayn Rand and went on a thinly veiled anti-capitalism kick.

Yes, TV is generally shit, but it seemed out of the blue for this to come to television, even if I had heard about the television adaptation of this series a couple years back.

I want to see how exactly they handle the more gruesome parts of the series as well as the Mord-Sith, seeing as how they've went and taken a very politically correct route if the first episode was any indication.

On a completely separate note, I haven't read fantasy in years. What would you recommend?

Tried watching it, can't.
It feels too much like an old Hercules episode.
Also I hate when shows project that they have a long term plan from the very very beginning, it works in books well enough but in TV shows it just doesn't. Example: Fringe. They spent the first four episodes making sure that we all know that they have long term plans for every character in it. No Subtlety.

Actor.

Okay, now I've watched a bit more of it and for some reason I like it.

Makes... no sense at all. ::huh?::

Anyone else still watching this? They've cut back on the stylised slowed-down fights, which is nice. But they've tacked on some really random junk, like the love story between the Seeker and the Confessor and that playland with all the kids with super-powers(why they didn't dump the seeker there as a kid I don't know) and some other random stuff I'm not really 100% sold on(an after school special episode about Drugs? Really? Thats what you guys went with).
Still its still a decent enough show. If only for Bruce Spence.

Actor.

Er.... I am. It's sort of freaking me out, actually... not for the Goodkindyness of it, because I remember squat about the books... but for the recycled Power Rangers actors they keep throwing up on screen.

The seeker's adopted brother was the hippy pizza store owner kung fu master and Purple Ranger in the season that just ended, and the episode Identity had both the red ranger (the merchant's son) and the yellow ranger (his betrothed) from last season in it.

I suppose, with Herc and Xena being years into the past, Power Rangers is the best place to get ready-trained stuntmen in New Zealand for gratuitous fight scenes... but still, it's freakin' me out.

I never watched Power Rangers after the third(I think) season. It got to far from being even remotely possible in terms of storylines.
Also that kid ranger drove me to shits, so I dumped it off.
Shame, I could now watch it and go... 'holy shit, I used to fap to that girl' and then fap to that girl again.

Actor.

I have no idea how they are going to do Mord Sith since the Sword of Truth seems not really magical at all in this horrible show.

What power does the Sword have in the book, maybe they just haven't got around to revealing it yet?

The sword is fuelled by anger, it cuts through steel and bone like nobody's business. Richard is not an accomplished swordsman at all in the first book, he just happens to be able to cut through someone's sword and decapitate them with a swing.

The second thing (which is also the first thing Zedd tells Richard about the sword), is that it only cuts that which you percieve to be a foe. It cannot harm anyone that you believe is good, unless the blade is turned white, in which case it can be used against anyone no matter how you feel towards them.

The last few seasons of Power Rangers (since they moved it to NZ) have been considerably better than the crap they used to make, and have followed... more or less... their Japanese counterparts in plot and story much more closely than anybody could ever have hoped for.

As to the originals, and other sentai goodness... tvnihon.com does translations and torrents, and does a damn good job too. Gaoranger was probably my all time favorite Sentai, but shoonra's right about Kamen Rider Kabuto. It and Kamen Rider Faiz were probably two of my favorite shows ever, not just of this genre but all around.

Back to topic though, you think they're going to actually stick to the power and mythos of the Sword itself? Or are they going to water it down? I think it'd be funny if Zedd neglects to tell Richard it won't hurt anything he doesn't perceive as a threat until he's forced to use it to kill someone holding a hostage or something... then afterwards, have one of those "THIS IS SOMETHING YOU COULD'VE TOLD ME FIVE MINUTES AGO!" moments.

That would allow hilarity to ensue...BRILLIANT!!!!!

Actually I watched it because Bandman told me bout Zedd being played by the actor from "The Road Warrior" who flew the gyrocopter. Hilarious.

Have they cancelled this show yet?
Because I've not seen a new episode up in a while, but then again maybe I've missed them in between all my drinking and sleeping during the hours of daylight.

Christmas break. Episode 108 aired on Sunday (Denna), but was not caught by the scene. Repeat is on the 14th (today), so there should be a scene rip up soon.
