I wonder, how large are the forums, and would it be possible to get a hard copy of them. I wouldn't mind keeping this site for memory sake. I mean 20-30 years ago a lot of this will be a riot.

Making a carbon copy forum probably wouldn't be too strenuous; board database size is 367mb, avatar directory is another 8mb and attachments total another 631mb. Good luck, however, on the hard copy (by which I assume you mean paper) front.

Nope, just want it in CD format.

1 Gig? hm. Is is possible to make a torrent or something? Or a DVD and mail it to me.

I wouldn't mind getting a copy as well.

I'm against this idea, on the grounds that it would be the last nail in the forum's coffin.
I would still like a copy if the motion passes though.

Xanilus, I don't remember who you are, but I commend your dedication of having an up-to-date avatar.

Ah, dedication. I remember when I used to have that. Like when we had the rotating theme months for avatars. (Was it monthly? Or weekly? I forget.) Now those were some dedicated times.

I swear, I probably never should have changed my name. It was a lot easier when there was a field for custom titles, but alas I'm now an obscure reference to an unhatched plot thread from Road Trip. Once upon a time, however, I was the artist formerly known as BiShouNenKaMi.

A hard copy of the boards would be... interesting, to say the least.

It was weekly, if I remember rightly we had semi-competitions to decide the next weeks theme. I stuck with a Minesweeper game and variations of it for a few months, altering it to match the theme.
And then we had matrix week and everyone became Agent Smith.

I keep thinking of a H.G.Wells style Time Machine event where all information is kept on the talking spinning disks, only it's speaking words from this forum.

What a rebirth of the species that would be.

Needs more Planet of the Apes to go with it as well.

Also, I'll look at the backup thing next week, I have a busy weekend ahead. I foresee masses of hilarity and slow, especially when it comes to creating a torrent file and finding a tracker to use. Make suggestions to quell my rising apathy!

Hay Actor, you going to supanova this weekend? Cos I'll be there.

Sadly I'll be spending the weekend writing up a report on the collection development policies of the Logan City Council Library service... instead of going to Supanova, My cousins bucks party, the first serious soccer game of the season or the strip club that I often frequent on Saturdays to torment this girl that seems to think I like her.

You're truly going to take the terrible and not fun option this weekend? Also, Supanova apparently on again in November.

Any society founded off of the information contained within these forums would frighten me.

And Arouse me...

aw crap, now I'm aroused.

Moderately decent, and apparently an Ent. But yeah, I'm alive. How 'bout yourself?

I've been on a bit of a nostalgia-binge over the past few days, and have been browsing through a bunch of classic forum threads. I get mixed feelings looking back on this stuff, largely because I'm not entirely fond of the (awkward, immature, overly emotional) person I was at that time. However, many of the happy memories I do have from that period of my life are somehow connected to this forum and the people I met through it. Re-reading Road Trip, the Pocket Dimension thread, the KFPwpS, etc. has made me remember how much fun I used to have here.

I've lost touch with almost all the old regulars, with the exception of those I communicate with on Facebook (mainly MiaoMing). Whatever happened to WI? What about Rand? Yevaud? There were so many awesome posters here whom I'll most likely never hear from again. That's for the best, I suppose. If, tomorrow, these forums magically returned to the way they were in their glory days -- if all the regulars came back, if the webcomics we used to host returned, if we once again had a steady influx of fresh blood -- I doubt I'd return to regular posting. I'm a different person now, at a different point in my life. I'm sure this is true for many of us.

Still, I'm really, really glad that the forums were there for me when they were, and that I got the chance to meet so many awesome people here. What we had might not have been too extraordinary objectively, but at the time, to me, it was something special. :cryingstoat:

o_o;; Why an Ent?

I'm alive too! For some value thereof. Just finished my first year out of four in vet school (an exam every week, hurrah) and now I'm going to Thailand to do summer research. Anybody who wants me to mail them Thai prettyboys better get their orders in before mid-August. :P
