Does anyone here have it, play it, or have any real experience with it?

I'm considering buying it and wanted to hear from some people had at least played it.

Ditto. Crap. I might just shell out the money then sell it off if I don't like it.

I'm guessing it will still have a monthly fee in the form of expansion packs released every two months or so.

The WPE was quite enjoyable, IMO. I'm trying to figure out if I should buy the game or play DAoC for 2 months after my 3 month subscription runs out.

I still need to figure out how to apply Sun Tzu's Art of War to it...

Too many damn acronyms... I get IMO (in my opinion) and DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot) but what the fuck is WPE? And how does this pertain to whether or not I should buy Guild Wars?

WPE=World Preview Event. Basically, Guild Wars people had a weekend where anyone could download it and play some. Your character started at level 15 already multiclassed. It was pretty fun.

Not, of course, to be confused with the WPT, which is the World Poker Tour.

I tried it briefly during the "everyone can play" thing. It isn't bad, really. But WoW owns my soul.

Not exactly an MMORPG but then again I wouldn't expect you to know the difference. One big distinction being that I absolutely steadfastly refuse to rent games...

Alright I've played for a while now and I'm gunna give a preliminary review so people can judge a little bit better (perhaps).

Ranking: 9.5 out of 10

General: In the very broadest of brush strokes this game is your standard get mission, dungeon crawl for objective, return, get reward. However to leave it at that would be a great disservice to the game and lying by ommision to the players.

Character creation is deceptively simple. All you initially choose is your basic appearence including size, skin color, gender, etc... as well as your primary profession. However character creation never really stops and through out the game you get to tweak your character beginning with the opportunity to choose a secondary profession if you like.

The game also has a very easy learning curve due to the rich and in depth tutorial and early character development level the game starts with. (I spent nearly 8 hours in it before realizing what it was.)

Pros: It is an amazingly balanced game and would have been an excellent role playing game alone. Making it an online role playing game does nothing to hinder this and actually drives the quality up another notch or two.

They have managed to eliminate nearly every annoying aspect of massive online games (such as running forever to get somewhere, chasing worms around to level up so you can kill a butterfly, people camping spawns, and the godforsaken monthly charge) while maintaining the ability to role play with other humans and work together or competitively towards goals. They encourage working with other people and make it very convienient to do so. Each character is so perfectly balanced against the others and the enemy characters that leveling almost happens on it's own accord during the play of the game instead of having to level up to play the game.

Thus far the game is rich and polished that it is hard to find fault anywhere. Even accessing NPC's is easy and nearly fool proof.

Cons: Yeah you knew there had to be some.

Clicking in combat to select your target. If you've got a friend or npc there it sometimes registers on them. This can be avoided by using the keyboard shortcut.

Some things such as the finer points to leveling up are not fully described in game or in the manual. Much of this clears away upon leaving the practice level as long as you learn how to level up artibute points. (In the menu under hero)

Occasionally you can get stuck. This happened once when I moved into a corner and an NPC moved in my way. I was trapped until the NPC moved and I had no way to push them.

Overall: This is the most polished and well crafted game I have ever played, bar none. Arena.Net comprised of developers who made Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo have raised the bar AGAIN. They took their previous games and made them look like they were JV practice.

This is no mindless hack and slash game. Winning a battle is as much dependent on your skill as a player as the level and strengths of your character.

This is a must buy for nearly everyone. Especially those people who liked NWN and similar games. It in many ways resembles those games, such as D&D Heros for console, except my friends can be anywhere in the world, not just in my basement.

Not saying it's better (as I've not played GW aside from the WPE), but have you tried DAoC?

Not yet I'm trying other massives to see if I can find anything that compares. This includes game from other genres too from the polish aspect.

Does this mean that it's an MMO that doesn't have an incorporated monthly fee? Because that sounds like summer fun to me.

It means that someday soon, you'll be getting your ass constantly handed to you by a player who actually pays for the expansions every month they come out. It's a perpetual cycle.

Actually I doubt it. I think that the expansions will add content not power.
