Shinimegami, I've got you down as awaiting confirmation just because occasionally boyfriends can be difficult, but once you know for sure I'll move you up.

It's looking likely that we will need both sets of rooms... since my headcount including me and Poe and Skjie and WrenDraco and you and your boyfriend is already at three full rooms. WrenDraco, did you decide where you wanted to book your rooms?

Also, this idea of feeding people has merit, and when we get MUCH closer to the date we could maybe talk about food preferences and see if we can figure out a way to run a mini-consuite for us without it involving everyone going in and out of Poe's hidey space all weekend. Volunteers for that (thank you Wolfie) are MORE than welcome. The King rooms have space to cook (and handy stone surfaces to work on), but the Doubles are a much tighter squeeze. It can be done (and has been), but it might involve making one room the Kitchen Room and having people in it who are comfortable with late night snack runs from everyone else, or maybe cooking in the rooms with space but serving and stocking drinks elsewhere, or some such thing. I'm not worrying about it right now, it's over a year away, but it's a thing to keep in the backs of everyone's minds. This particular convention has a food court attached to the hotels and numerous restaurants in the area, so there's no need to stress overmuch about food options anyways.

It appears that con badges can be bought VERY inexpensively at the con for the following year. I'll be at the con this year, so I'm willing to buy badges for those who are sure they can make it, but the badges are non-refundable. Would anyone like me to do that?

I'm hearing that last year it was $65 if you bought at-con for the following year. I'm now attempting to determine if one can buy for people outside one's own household.

Edit: Okay, apparently that is a thing you can do, at least according to other attendees. SO, in order to register a badge for you, I will need...

Your legal name
Your nickname (or forum handle?) if you want it put on your badge
Your mailing address
Your phone number
Your e-mail
Your date of birth

And probably $70 to be safe. If there's money left after buying the badges I can either refund it or hold it towards your room, whichever you prefer. Likewise if they don't let me register your badges for some reason, I'll send the money back to you.

If you have a medical concern that EMTs might need to know about before loading you in an ambulance, please let me know that as well, in case they ask so they can put it on your badge. They do have disability services, as well, that's up to attendees to arrange as needed.

The deadline to get me your money and information, if you want me to register you at the con this year, is going to be August 20, 2013. If you can't make it, don't worry, you can still register at any point during the entire year after that, it just costs more the longer you wait.

I think probably that is a question for your lady. Does she have any interest in going? Will you be needed to do pre-wedding stuff at that point or will it all be basically set by then? Can you make disappearing for a week also take care of her in some way, like making sure she gets a chance to relax pre-wedding?

Okay, so, at this point Omni, Wolfie, and Gazing Rabbit have actually bought their badges. Everyone else (including me and Poe) is still in pending mode. Poe and I are going to try to be in the Artist's Alley, so we won't know about our badges for a while, but regardless I will book the rooms as soon as booking opens up, which is October 16th at 10AM eastern.

Money for hotels should be thrown at WrenDraco or me, as the case may be. If we're both booking in the Hyatt, that will be October 16th. As a note, I usually try to request the exact same room every year, which is in the International Tower. The rooms in that tower are smaller, but they're also on a different elevator system and mine in particular has a fantastic view of the parade. Also, because my stay at Dragon Con this year took me to a platinum Hyatt rewards level, in theory the internet in my rooms should be free from now on.

I have also learned a few things about meal planning for this con, if that's something we seriously want to do. First is that there are no refrigerators in the rooms, what's there is an electric cooler and it is nowhere near adequate for food for a dozen people. So we either need a large cooler and religious ice-changing schedule, or we need to figure out a way to work around the need for cold things, or we need to figure out how to get a dorm fridge in there, or some combination of those things. I suppose a room might valiantly sacrifice their tub as a cooler full of ice and then use one of the other showers for the duration, but that's kinda... maybe not the best plan, even though it is by far the easiest to accomplish. A microwave is going to be essential, I just can't see us getting around the need for one with so many people. Also, I suspect soups and stews in the crockpot are going to be the best choices for easy feeding of the whole crew, with fresh fruit and veggies to go with. I will do RESEARCH and try to find some that will accommodate a variety of dietary needs. I've heard gluten free already, and I'm allergic to nightshades like tomatoes, peppers and eggplant... are vegetarian or kosher also things to account for? Something else?

When it comes to booze... others should plan that. The hotels all have bars, which offer the infamous Dragon Con bucket of rum, but they're crowded and expensive. Room parties often have stuff, but they may or may not include a cover and one does have to be invited to begin with. There are several official parties as well, which sell tickets in advance. It's never been much of an issue for me, as I'm not a heavy drinker or partier, but I suspect as a whole the group might like to have some options. It is technically illegal to bring alcohol over state lines (not that it stops anyone), but more to the point I don't know how many people are driving in and my vehicle at least is likely to be quite full. A booze run on arrival would not be a terrible plan, but I won't be able to do it because I'll be setting up our table (assuming we get one).
