Well from what I understand you can just install it off of someone else's cd then purchase your own account with a new key for slightly less money, or i'm making this up.

On a random note.

I recommend buying it properly, seeing as it downloads, after getting the main game, and creating an account.. 500 meg, the first time it tries to run a level.

... at 20k/s.

Another point regarding City of Heroes as an alternative: Yes, it has a monthly fee, but they have released 4 free expansions/updates covered by that fee. It seems that there will be a new content patch every 3 months or so included in the subscription price. Also, they have pretty phenomonal customer service. They also discuss changes with their playerbase, solicit feedback, and even act on it in a timely manner. But enough fluffing Cryptic...

Is forgiving is Guild Wars of lag? Do you have to have a pristine connection in order to play, for instance? It sounds sort of "twitchy" to me, which means lag would be crippling.

i have yet to get lag killed. that says A LOT.
i can get lag killed playing dominos. its what i do.
there were a couple of annoying lag spikes lately (1 second at most, i just always play faster than any game can handle so it really pisses me off >.>) but i blame it on my shitty upload rate (12kb cap), bittorrent and it being the weekend.

hrm. wasnt this game made by the same company that made city of heroes? i remember pictures from it plastered all over their shop...

There was some pretty atrocious server lag last night, and it resulted in Tamayo being killed a few times. But I, Charles Guiteau, slayer of James Garfield, survived intact!

I suggest never to do the quest The Villainy of Galrath. It is horrible. Perhaps the hardest quest to date. The rewards aren't worth it. I think they made it just for bragging rights. If it was a skills quest then I could see myself finishing it. Save yourself the headache and don't do it. Or have a 6 man group of level 18 or higher with no dumb players. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

Jon Amraphel, for those heathens who don't read the stoat forum. (and yes, I'm aware of the sheer geekery of chosing that name)

What level/status of completion should I be before searing (I'm assuming that's what you call leaving the training area). I'd try to do all of the dumb quests, but dammit, there are some, err, dumb quests. I'm at level 4 now, and I've done both skill quests, if anyone's curious.

Generally, I'm usually 7-8 before leaving pre-searing, but only because I actually try to get all my skills before it gets tougher.

Er... Yeah. Go for the 7-8 area, because post-searing isn't really non-aggro friendly. "Hallo thar, bajillion Gwar!" "Hallo Mr Charr. And your MILLIONS OF FRIENDS OHSHIT."

I played it on dialup during the first open event. Only problem was loading updates for missions and whatnot.

It actually worked over dialup?
Damn... my last excuse not to start playing MMORPGS is failing me.
