Some of the best stuff on that site actually involves Batman. This, for instance. It's boner-tastic!

Also, this is pretty awesome in its own way. Comics Code Authority? What Comics Code Authority?

Well the thoughts running through my mind upon seeing that comic are generally wrong but I really wish I had a spare three hundred dollars to buy it, blow the cover image up and make a poster.

Also, my favorite cover is the one where Robin and Superman's dorky little friend are digging their own graves at gunpoint.

Superman makes a good point.

I wouldn't want to marry someone that stupid.

Actor.

Well, given that he's a dick, it might be a good move - imagine all the fooling around he could get away with when they get all old and he's still young as ever! mebbe he could even marry both . . . the opportunity for dickery on a whole new level would be opened up to him!

Also, how the HELL did all these things fit into the comic world? I mean, even if they are fakeouts, it seems they' still fuck up continuity unless they're one-off spoofs, in which case who'd buy them??

Actually, back in the day, when comics were just that, and for kids, no less, they could pretty much recycle this stuff over and over.

In fact, if you read through everything, the webmaster has put in comments about how often certain stories were recycled. You'll also notice catchlines on the covers like "Honest to goodness" and "This is not a joke" etc etc.

Suckers.

hence why i never liked american comics.

everything will be recycled at one point or another. that or contiuntiny will be just chucked out the window when a new writer shows up even to this day

my fave one so far is how some new writer last year made up the whole saga were spider man is really the avatar of the pagen spider god and that his getting bitten by a radio active spider was all part of fate because he was destined to become the avatar and now must battle other dieties avatars.... ok wtf ?

so all in all american comics are like fanficiton. there are usually a few set rules that you cant change but everything else is free game

I think that J. Michael Straczynski wrote that one.

He created Babylon Five and has had some decent comics(Rising Stars and Midnight Nation being his main ones) but sadly his work with other peoples properties is lacklustre at best.

And during the 40s-70s comics in America had an average readership of one year, so after about 3 years they'd just repeat the story over again and retcon as they wanted (Retcon or Retroactive Continuity for those of you not in the know is where you change the past of your characters/universe and ignore previous statements to the contrary).

American comics suffered like this for a long time and are just now starting to get their acts together in terms of continuity and character development. But the problem is that they don't have the balls needed to actually take risks with their characters.

IE: Jean Grey had died about five times and always comes back, the Punisher had died about twenty times(although mostly his deaths were set-ups to look like he was dead for what ever random enemy he was after that week) and always comes back, Batman had his spine broken and got better whilst Batgirl had her spine shot through but is in a wheelchair for the rest of her life(don't half the superheros have healing powers?), Superman died and came back after a year, Professor X has got use of his legs back four times and alway lost it again and again by the end of the year, Electra, whose death was meant to fuel Daredevils rage for years to come, came back from the dead.

They fear changing their main characters too much because they've become institutions. Manga doesn't tend to have such limitations because they are generally written with a full story arc in mind ahead of time and will finish at the end of that, not when sales drop.
Vertigo comics are pretty good for that right now(Preacher, Y the Last Man, 100 Bullets, Transmetropolitan) because they are all set in their own seperate universes and generally have a fixed story and comic-run length(100 Bullets will go for 100 issues, Preacher was 72, Transmetropolitan was 60).

Actor.

Y'know, to this day I've still never seen the original Superman movies. Should probably rectify that sometime.

Did like how they poked fun at the "amazing disguise... of wearing glasses" thing. Not that they had much choice.

EDIT: Oh god, I just read that batman comic linked above again. Comissioner Gordon saying to Batman about the Joker "And I'm worried about the boner he's readying for you!" must be one of the greatest bits of unintentional comedy ever.
